How to Cancel Verisure and Avoid Termination Charges

To cancel Verisure in the UK, the named account holder must phone 0333 200 9000; there is no email, app, or SMS route. What it costs depends on timing. Inside the first 14 days you can walk away free. During the initial fixed term, usually 48 months, you will normally be billed the monthly fees for the rest of the contract. After the fixed term ends, you only need to give the notice set out in your agreement.

Check the 14-Day Cooling-Off Window First

If you signed recently, look at the date before you look at anything else. Under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013, a service contract agreed at a distance or off-premises can be cancelled within 14 days without penalty.1UK Government. Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 – Regulation 29 The clock starts the day the contract is made, not the day of installation.

A Verisure rep visiting your home and signing you up on the spot is an off-premises sale. Phone and online sign-ups are covered too. If you are still inside the 14 days, call 0333 200 9000 and say you are exercising your cooling-off right. Note the date, the time, and the name of the person you spoke to. This is the cleanest exit available, so it is worth checking your paperwork before you assume you are locked in.

Cancelling During the Fixed Term

Verisure’s standard UK residential contract runs for an initial fixed term, commonly 48 months. Cancelling before it expires triggers an early termination charge that is typically the remaining monthly fees for the balance of the contract. Twelve months into a 48-month agreement at £40 a month, that would be 36 months of fees. The total can easily run into four figures.

This is the point where most people get stuck. The charge is not a flat administrative fee. Verisure’s position is that the monthly price was set on the assumption you would stay for the full term, so leaving early means paying what you agreed to buy. Whether the figure you are quoted is actually enforceable is a separate question, covered below.

Cancelling After the Minimum Term

Once the fixed period ends, the contract rolls over. Rolling contracts are much easier to leave, but you still have to give notice. The required period is set out in your individual agreement and commonly falls between 30 and 90 days before the next renewal date. Miss the window and the contract auto-renews for another period.

Log in to the Members Area at customers.verisure.co.uk to find your exact notice period and next renewal date. If you cannot get in, ring 0333 200 9000 and ask a representative to read both dates back to you before you cancel formally. A few days out and you can be locked in for another term.

What to Have Ready Before You Call

Only the named account holder can cancel, so if a partner or housemate handles the alarm day-to-day, the original signatory has to make the call.2Verisure UK. How To Cancel Verisure Before dialling, have your account number to hand (on your monthly invoice or in the My Verisure app), your contract start date and term length, your notice period, and the installation address exactly as it appears on file.

During the call, ask the representative to confirm your termination date and any charges in writing. Verisure should send confirmation anyway, but asking for it creates a paper trail. Write down who you spoke to, the time and date, and any reference number given. If a dispute comes up later, those notes are your evidence.

Returning the Equipment

Verisure owns everything installed in your home. The sensors, control panel, cameras, and any other hardware are never yours. Once the contract ends, you have 30 days to return it. You can post it back at your own expense or let Verisure collect at theirs.3Verisure. Verisure Terms and Conditions – Section 10.20

If the equipment comes back damaged, or does not come back at all, Verisure can charge you a reasonable amount as compensation and deduct it from any refund. Do not try to remove a ZeroVision smoke device yourself; Verisure’s terms require a technician to disconnect it for health and safety reasons, and professional removal is recommended for all equipment types.4Verisure. Verisure Terms and Conditions – Section 10.21 If you are doing it yourself, use a qualified electrician, ship everything by an insured, trackable service, and keep proof of postage. Without tracking, a lost parcel is your problem.

What Happens to the System After Cancellation

Verisure stops all monitoring the moment the contract ends. Alarm signals from your property will not be verified or acted on, even if the hardware is still on the wall.5Verisure. Verisure Terms and Conditions – Section 10.25 Equipment left in place may keep sending technical signals if it still has power and internet, but nothing is guaranteed, and Verisure can shut remaining features down at any time without notice.

In practice, the system is unusable after cancellation. The hardware depends on Verisure’s cloud, so you cannot repurpose it as a standalone alarm. If you are switching providers, line the new installation up close to your termination date so you are not left uncovered.

Moving House Instead of Cancelling

If the reason you want to cancel is a move, there is another option. Verisure offers an Alarm Move that transfers your contract to a new UK address. You can start it through the Alarm Move form in the My Verisure app, or by calling 0333 200 9000. Verisure will then be in touch to arrange details and confirm any additional fees.6Verisure. Verisure Terms and Conditions – Section 10.30

This route avoids early termination charges entirely. If you are mid-contract and the move is the only reason you want out, the transfer fees and any new installation costs are likely to be much less than paying out the balance of a 48-month term.

Challenging an Unfair Termination Charge

If the early termination figure Verisure quotes looks disproportionate, you are not automatically stuck with it. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, an unfair term in a consumer contract is not binding. A term is unfair if it creates a significant imbalance in the parties’ rights and obligations to the consumer’s detriment, contrary to good faith, and courts are required to assess fairness even if neither party raises it.7Legislation.gov.uk. Consumer Rights Act 2015 – Part 2, Section 62

A charge equal to 100% of the remaining monthly fees for years of unused service can be argued as punitive rather than a genuine estimate of Verisure’s loss. The stronger your case that the figure far exceeds any reasonable cost to the company, the better your chances. Raise it with customer support first. If that goes nowhere, escalate to Verisure’s directors’ office via the contact page on verisure.co.uk. Still stuck? Take it to your local Trading Standards office, or bring a small claims court action for amounts under £10,000.

Check the Final Bill

Once the termination date passes, read your final statement carefully. It should include any pro-rated charges up to the effective end date and nothing after. Check your bank for any further direct debits. If payments keep coming out after the account is closed, cancel the mandate at your bank and raise it with Verisure at the same time.

When the equipment is back and any balance is settled, ask for written confirmation that the account is closed with a zero balance. Keep it, along with your call notes and postage receipts, for at least a year in case a phantom charge surfaces later.
