How to Cancel Virta: Membership, Refunds, and Health Data

To cancel Virta, email support@virtahealth.com and state that you want to close your account, or tell your Virta health coach directly. Either method works under Virta’s terms, but the timing of that message matters: the self-pay plan auto-renews monthly at $299, and the only way to stop the next charge is to send your cancellation before the billing cycle processes.1Virta Health. Terms Keep a copy of the email or a screenshot of your request as proof of the date.

The Two Ways to Cancel

The fastest route is email. Write to support@virtahealth.com and say clearly that you want to cancel your account. You can also call support at 1-844-VIRTA-16, or submit a written request through Virta’s help center form if you want a record from the start.2Virta. Submit a Request

If you’re actively working with a Virta coach, you can also notify the coach directly. The coach then starts what Virta calls the “release process,” transitioning your care back to your primary care physician.3Virta Health. How to Cancel and be Released from Virta That route is worth considering if Virta has adjusted your medications, because the coach can coordinate the handoff instead of leaving you between providers.

Cancel Before the Next Billing Date

Virta’s monthly plan renews automatically, and the company is allowed to charge your card on file without sending a reminder first. The only way to stop the next charge is to email support@virtahealth.com before that charge processes.1Virta Health. Terms The terms don’t set a required notice period, but sending the email on the day of renewal invites a timing problem. Give yourself a few days of buffer.

After the 14-day window described below, Virta’s terms do not guarantee prorated refunds. Canceling mid-month likely means you’ve paid for the rest of the cycle without a partial credit coming back, so align your cancellation date with the end of a billing period when you can.

Refunds Within 14 Days

New members who cancel within 14 calendar days of registering can request a refund of fees paid. Email support@virtahealth.com, include a mailing address, and Virta will send a refund check within four to six weeks.1Virta Health. Terms

There’s an important deduction. If you’ve already received medical equipment (the scale, blood glucose meter, or ketone meter), Virta subtracts $300 from your refund to cover those supplies.1Virta Health. Terms With the self-pay plan at $299 per month plus a separate $250 initiation fee, that $300 deduction can wipe out most of what you’d otherwise get back. If you’re uncertain in your first two weeks, do the math before the equipment ships.

Coordinate Your Medications Before You Cancel

Canceling Virta is a clinical step, not just an administrative one. The program often involves reducing or eliminating diabetes and blood pressure medications under physician supervision. Stopping without a handoff can leave you without monitoring while your body adjusts.

When you notify your coach, they start transitioning your care back to your primary care physician.3Virta Health. How to Cancel and be Released from Virta Before your last day on the platform, make sure your outside doctor knows the medications you’re currently taking, the doses Virta changed, and your recent lab values. Schedule the appointment with your own doctor before Virta access ends, not after. If your primary care physician is working from outdated information, the consequences for a diabetic patient can be serious.

Download Your Health Data First

Access to the Virta app and patient portal is revoked after your final service date. Before that, pull down anything you want to keep: blood glucose logs, weight trends, ketone readings, lab results, and notes from your care team. Once the digital connection is cut, retrieving that information on demand becomes much harder.

You still have rights to your records after the relationship ends. Under HIPAA’s access rule, a healthcare provider must give you access to your protected health information in their designated record set regardless of when the information was created or where it’s stored.4U.S. Department of Health & Human Services. Right to Access and Research You can file a request later, but it’s much easier to download the data while you still have the app.

Any supplies already in your possession, including testing strips and lancets, are yours to keep after cancellation. Recurring shipments simply stop.1Virta Health. Terms

If You Enrolled Through an Employer or Insurer

The cancellation process above applies to the self-pay membership. If you joined Virta through an employer-sponsored benefit or a health plan, your billing runs under a separate agreement, and you won’t see a monthly charge on your personal card. If your employer drops the benefit or you leave the company, Virta gives you the option to take over payments yourself at the individual rate or end the service entirely.1Virta Health. Terms Don’t assume your access ends quietly when your employment changes. Confirm in writing that you’ve been removed, so you aren’t surprised later by a bill.
