To cancel your Adobe subscription and get a refund, sign in at account.adobe.com, open the plan you want to end, and work through the “Cancel your plan” flow to the final confirmation screen. You get a full refund only if you cancel within 14 days of your initial purchase. After that, what happens to your money depends on your plan: an annual plan paid monthly triggers a termination fee of 50% of the remaining balance, a prepaid annual plan gives you no refund but keeps your access through the term you paid for, and a month-to-month plan simply runs out at the end of the current billing cycle.1Adobe. What You Get Back Depends on Your Plan
Before you click anything, know which plan you’re on. The cancellation screen in your account lists it, and the financial outcome follows directly from that label.
Annual Plan, Paid Monthly
This is the plan that catches most people off guard. You committed to a full year but pay in monthly installments at a discounted rate. Cancel inside the 14-day window from your initial order and Adobe refunds you in full. Cancel after that, and Adobe charges a lump-sum early termination fee equal to 50% of your remaining contract balance, then keeps your service active until the end of the current billing month.1Adobe. Adobe Subscription and Cancellation Terms
The fee hits as a single charge, not spread across the months you would have paid. If you have six months left on a $54.99 monthly plan, expect roughly half of six times $54.99 to come off your card at cancellation.
Annual Plan, Prepaid
If you paid for the whole year upfront, canceling within 14 days of the purchase gets you a full refund. After 14 days, you get nothing back, but your access continues through the end of the term you already paid for.1Adobe. Adobe Subscription and Cancellation Terms There’s no termination fee because there’s nothing left to bill. In most cases the practical move is to cancel the auto-renewal and let the subscription ride out.
Month-to-Month Plan
Monthly plans with no annual commitment are the simplest. Cancel anytime. There’s no refund for the current month, no termination fee, and your access stays active until the billing period ends.2Adobe. Understand Adobe’s Subscription Terms and Refund Policies
The 14-Day Window Does Not Reset on Renewal
One misconception trips people up. The 14-day full-refund window applies to your initial purchase, not to annual renewals. If your plan auto-renews for a second year and you try to cancel on day two of the new term, the termination fee or no-refund rule applies as if you were already mid-contract. Set a reminder before your renewal date if cancellation is on the table.
How to Cancel Through Your Account
The fastest route is Adobe’s account portal:3Adobe. Cancel Your Adobe Trial or Subscription
- Sign in at account.adobe.com with the Adobe ID tied to your subscription.
- Select “Manage plan” next to the subscription you want to end. If you have more than one plan, confirm you’ve selected the right one.
- Select “Cancel your plan.” The link sits under the plan details rather than at the top of the page.
- Review the plan details screen and select “Continue to cancel.”
- Choose a cancellation reason from the dropdown and select “Continue.”
- Check the financial summary showing any termination fee or remaining service time, then select “Confirm cancellation.”
- Watch for a confirmation email, or verify the cancellation on your account page.
Cancellation only counts when you reach the final confirmation. Closing the browser earlier leaves the subscription active and your next payment on schedule. Adobe also blocks cancellation while a payment is being processed; if you see a pending-charge message, wait about 24 hours and try again.3Adobe. Cancel Your Adobe Trial or Subscription
Watch Out for Retention Offers
Somewhere between picking a reason and confirming, Adobe will try to keep you. The flow typically presents a discounted rate or a couple of free months. These offers aren’t inherently bad, but read what you’re accepting. A “two months free” offer can restart you on a fresh annual commitment paid monthly, which means a new 12-month contract and a new termination fee if you try to leave before that year ends.
If you’re canceling because you don’t need the software, click past every offer. If you’re canceling over price and would stay at a lower rate, read the terms of the deal in front of you before accepting.
If the Cancel Option Is Missing
Sometimes the “Cancel your plan” link doesn’t appear in the dashboard. The usual cause is a failed or pending payment: Adobe blocks self-service cancellation when your account isn’t in good standing, often showing a message that you’ll be able to manage the plan shortly. Update the payment method, clear the outstanding charge, and the option returns.
Browser glitches can also hide plan details. Try a different browser or device first. If the option still won’t appear, contact Adobe support directly. You can start a live chat at helpx.adobe.com/contact.html (type “agent” to skip the chatbot) or call 800-915-9428. There is no email-based cancellation option.
If You Subscribed Through Apple or Google
If you bought your Adobe subscription inside an iPhone or iPad app, or through the Google Play Store, Adobe cannot cancel it or issue your refund. You have to use the store that billed you.4Adobe. Manage Subscriptions — Acrobat for iOS Help
- Apple App Store: open Settings on your device, tap your name, select “Subscriptions,” find the Adobe plan, and tap “Cancel Subscription.” Refund requests go through reportaproblem.apple.com.
- Google Play Store: open the Google Play app, tap your profile icon, go to “Payments & subscriptions,” then “Subscriptions,” choose the Adobe plan, and tap “Cancel subscription.” Refund requests go through play.google.com/store/account.
Apple’s and Google’s refund rules apply instead of Adobe’s, and their timelines differ. Check each store’s terms before counting on money back.
What Happens After You Confirm
Adobe sends an automated confirmation email to the address on your account. Save it. If a billing dispute comes up later, that email is your proof the cancellation went through.
Refunds typically take five to seven business days to post on a credit card statement. PayPal refunds can take a little longer. If nothing shows up after 10 business days, Adobe recommends contacting your bank directly.3Adobe. Cancel Your Adobe Trial or Subscription You can also check the “Orders” section of your account to confirm Adobe initiated the refund and pull a reference number for your bank.
Access doesn’t disappear the moment you cancel. On an annual plan paid monthly, you keep access through the end of the current billing period. On a prepaid annual plan, you keep access through the full term you paid for. Once that period ends, the apps revert to a limited free mode where you can view files but not edit them.
Save Your Cloud Files Before They’re Gone
This is the step people miss. When your paid subscription ends, your account drops to Adobe’s free tier with 2 GB of cloud storage. If you’re over that limit, you get a 30-day window to download or delete files. After 30 days, Adobe may permanently delete whatever puts you over the cap.
Lightroom gets a longer runway: Adobe retains your original photos for one year after your membership lapses so you can log back in and download them. Don’t lean on that. Pull down anything you care about before you cancel or right after, while it’s still on your mind.
The 2026 DOJ Settlement May Affect You
In March 2026, the Department of Justice settled a lawsuit against Adobe alleging the company hid early termination fees in fine print and made cancellation unnecessarily difficult. Adobe agreed to pay $75 million in civil penalties and provide $75 million in free services to affected customers.5U.S. Department of Justice. Public Law 111-345 – Restore Online Shoppers’ Confidence Act
Under the settlement, Adobe must clearly disclose any early termination fee and how it’s calculated before you enroll, and for free trials longer than seven days must send a reminder before converting the trial into a paid subscription that carries a termination fee.5U.S. Department of Justice. Free Trials Convert Automatically
Adobe free trials convert to paid subscriptions when the trial period ends. To avoid the charge, cancel before the trial expires using the same steps as a regular subscription. You won’t be billed, and you keep access through the rest of the trial.3Adobe. Cancel Your Adobe Trial or Subscription
