To cancel an Adobe subscription, sign in at account.adobe.com, select Manage plan next to the subscription, and follow the cancellation prompts. The whole process takes about five minutes. What it costs you depends entirely on which plan you signed up for, so figuring out how to cancel your Adobe subscription starts with checking your plan type before you click anything.
Check Your Plan Type First
Adobe sells plans that look alike on the signup page and behave very differently at cancellation. Sign into your account and open Manage plan to see which one you have.
- Month-to-month. Cancel anytime. A full refund is available within the first 14 days; after that, the current payment is non-refundable and access runs to the end of the billing period.
- Annual, paid monthly. This is the one that catches people. Cancel after the first 14 days and Adobe charges an early termination fee of 50% of your remaining monthly payments for the year. Access continues to the end of the current billing period.1Adobe. Adobe Subscription and Cancellation Terms
- Annual, prepaid. Full refund within 14 days. After that, no refund, but access stays active through the end of the prepaid term.2Adobe. Adobe Subscription Terms
The annual plan paid monthly is Adobe’s default selection at signup, which is why so many subscribers don’t realize they committed to a year. Confirm your plan before you start the cancellation, not during it.
Cancel Through Adobe’s Website
The online flow moves through several confirmation screens, asks why you’re leaving, and may present a discounted offer before letting you finish.3Adobe. Cancel Your Adobe Trial or Subscription
- Sign in at account.adobe.com.
- Select Manage plan next to the subscription you want to end.
- Select Cancel your plan.
- Review your plan details and choose Continue to cancel.
- Pick a reason for canceling and continue.
- Review the cancellation details, including any fees, and select Confirm cancellation.
- Watch for the confirmation email from Adobe.
You can’t cancel while a payment is processing or if there’s a billing issue on the account. If you hit that block, wait about 24 hours and try again. Save the confirmation email or screenshot the final screen. If a charge shows up later that you want to dispute, that record is the quickest way to resolve it.
The Early Termination Fee and How to Soften It
On an annual plan paid monthly, the 50% fee adds up quickly. Cancel six months into a roughly $60-per-month Creative Cloud plan and the fee lands around $180 for the six remaining months. The same fee structure applies across Creative Cloud individual plans, student plans, team plans, and Adobe Stock subscriptions.1Adobe. Adobe Subscription and Cancellation Terms
During the cancellation flow, Adobe often presents retention offers: a discounted rate for several months, or a temporary pause. If cost is the reason you’re leaving rather than a permanent break from Adobe’s tools, those offers can be worth a look. Some subscribers report switching to a cheaper plan first and then canceling the new plan inside its 14-day refund window to avoid the termination fee. Adobe’s terms do grant a fresh 14-day window when you change plans, but that approach depends on tracking the new deadline carefully.
If you cancel inside the original 14-day window and qualify for a full refund, expect the money back in roughly 10 to 15 business days.
If You Subscribed Through Apple or Google
Adobe cannot cancel a subscription you bought through the Apple App Store or Google Play. Those subscriptions are billed by the platform, and Adobe has no access to them.
On an Apple device, open Settings, tap your name, select Subscriptions, find the Adobe entry, and choose Cancel Subscription.4Adobe. Cancel Adobe Express on iOS If you no longer have the device, you can manage subscriptions through iTunes on a computer or contact Apple Support.
For a Google Play subscription, open the Play Store app, tap your profile icon, go to Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions, and cancel from there. Refunds on Google Play purchases go through Google, not Adobe.3Adobe. Cancel Your Adobe Trial or Subscription
Using Live Chat to Cancel or Negotiate
If the online flow isn’t cooperating, or if you want to push for a better outcome before you leave, Adobe offers live chat at helpx.adobe.com/contact.html. Chat is usually faster than phone support and leaves a written record.
State clearly that you want to cancel. Agents are trained to offer retention deals, and they can sometimes waive or reduce the early termination fee, particularly for long-time subscribers. You’re not obligated to accept anything. Before closing the chat, confirm the effective cancellation date and any fees charged, ask for a confirmation number, and check that the confirmation email arrives.
What Happens After You Cancel
Your account converts to a free Creative Cloud membership. Your Adobe ID stays active for signing in, viewing invoices, and resubscribing later.
Cloud storage drops to the free tier of 5 GB. If your files exceed that, you have 30 days to download or move them before Adobe may delete the excess.2Adobe. Adobe Subscription Terms That window is shorter than many people expect. Pull anything important down before you cancel, or immediately after.
Desktop apps like Photoshop and Illustrator stay installed but won’t open once paid access ends. Free mobile apps that don’t require a paid license keep working, and the Creative Cloud desktop app remains available for basic file management.
Adobe Fonts
Fonts you activated during your paid subscription become unavailable for new documents after cancellation. Fonts already embedded in flattened image files stay in those files, but you lose the ability to use them in editable projects. If specific Adobe Fonts are part of your ongoing work, plan on alternatives or a separate license.
Adobe Stock Credits
Unused Stock download credits are forfeited at cancellation, even if your plan allowed rollover while active. Use them before you cancel. Accumulated credits also expire after one year while a plan is active.
Federal Rules That Give You More Leverage
Adobe’s cancellation process has drawn federal attention. In June 2024, the Department of Justice filed a complaint against Adobe and two executives, alleging the company steered consumers toward annual plans while burying the early termination fee, and that the cancellation flow itself and customer service handling created obstacles to leaving.5Federal Trade Commission. FTC Takes Action Against Adobe and Executives for Hiding Fees, Preventing Consumers From Easily Cancelling
Separately, the FTC finalized a broader Click-to-Cancel rule in October 2024 requiring subscription sellers to make cancellation as easy as signup and to disclose material terms clearly before collecting billing information.6Federal Trade Commission. Federal Trade Commission Announces Final Click-to-Cancel Rule Making It Easier for Consumers to End Recurring Subscriptions Most of the rule took effect in 2025. If you believe Adobe’s process falls short, you can file a complaint with the FTC. Between the pending federal case and the new rule, subscribers have more standing to push back on unexpected fees than they did a few years ago.
