To cancel an Airtable subscription, the workspace Owner downgrades the workspace to the Free plan and removes the saved payment method. There is no single “cancel subscription” button in Airtable; billing is tied to each workspace, so canceling means changing that workspace’s plan. Here is how to cancel an Airtable subscription cleanly, what happens to your data afterward, and when you can get money back.
Only the Workspace Owner Can Cancel
Billing controls are limited to the workspace Owner. Creators, Editors, and Commenters cannot see or change plan or payment settings at all.1Airtable. Airtable Workspace Permissions If you are not the Owner, ask them to cancel, or have them transfer ownership to you first.
Airtable also bills per workspace. If your organization pays for more than one, you have to repeat the cancellation on each. A card left on a workspace you forgot about is the usual reason people still see charges after they thought they had canceled.
Downgrade the Workspace to Free
- Go to airtable.com/account, or open your account settings from your profile icon.
- Under Workspace settings, click the workspace you want to cancel.2Airtable. Airtable Workspace Settings Overview
- Open the Billing tab to see the current plan.3Airtable. Airtable Invoices and Receipts Overview
- Select the option to change or downgrade the plan to Free and confirm through the prompts, which list the features you’ll lose.
The downgrade is not instant. Your workspace keeps its paid features through the end of the billing cycle you’ve already paid for, monthly or annual, and drops to Free when that period ends. No further charge hits your card at the next renewal.4Airtable. Upgrading and Downgrading Your Airtable Workspace Plan
Remove the Payment Method
Downgrading stops the next renewal charge, but taking the card off the workspace is the safer second step:
- Open airtable.com/account.
- Select the workspace under Workspace settings.
- In the Payment details section, click Remove.5Airtable Support. Creating, Canceling, and Deleting Your Airtable Account
Do this on every workspace where the card is stored, not just the one you’re canceling.
What Happens to Your Data
Downgrading does not delete anything. Your bases, records, and attachments stay where they are. What changes is the ceiling: the Free tier caps each base at 1,000 records and 1 GB of attachment storage, and each workspace at 5 collaborators with editing permissions.6Airtable. Airtable Plans Overview
If any base is over those limits when the downgrade takes effect, you can still read what’s there, but you won’t be able to add records or upload attachments until you trim usage below the cap. Paid features like extensions, record coloring, and expanded revision history also drop off.4Airtable. Upgrading and Downgrading Your Airtable Workspace Plan
Export anything important before the cycle ends and you still have full access. Open each view, click the view name dropdown in the toolbar, and choose Download CSV. Attachments in Airtable fields (images, PDFs, documents) don’t come along in a CSV, so download those files separately.
Can You Get a Refund?
Airtable does not pro-rate refunds for canceling mid-cycle. You keep access until the paid period ends, but you won’t be reimbursed for unused time. The only refunds Airtable offers are “courtesy refunds” for accidental charges, such as an unintended upgrade or a billable collaborator you didn’t mean to add.7Airtable. Requesting Refunds From Airtable
The windows are tight:
- Monthly plans: request within 7 days of the invoice.
- Annual plans: request within 14 days of the invoice.7Airtable. Requesting Refunds From Airtable
You have to undo the accidental change first (downgrade the plan or remove the extra collaborator), then contact Airtable Support through the help icon in the lower right of your account, type “Refund,” and follow the prompts. Have your workspace ID and the last four digits of the card on file ready.
If the Owner Has Already Left
Cancellations often stall here. When the person who set up the workspace has left the organization without transferring ownership, no one else can reach billing. Airtable’s guidance is that departing Owners transfer workspace ownership and add at least one additional admin before leaving.8Airtable Support. Transferring Airtable Workspace, Base, and Interface Ownership Before Leaving a Company or Organization
If that didn’t happen, Enterprise Scale and Business plan admins can reassign workspace ownership through the admin panel. On a Team plan with no enterprise admin, contact Airtable Support directly and be ready to show that the departed person was part of your organization. These requests take time, and the workspace keeps billing while you wait, so open the ticket as soon as you can.
Enterprise and Business Plans Managed by an Admin
If your workspace sits inside an Enterprise Scale or Business plan run by your organization’s administrators, the self-service downgrade may not be available to you. Billing changes go through your internal enterprise admin.5Airtable Support. Creating, Canceling, and Deleting Your Airtable Account Enterprise contracts run under Airtable’s Master Subscription Agreement, with defined contract periods and renewal terms that don’t match the self-service rules above, so check the contract before assuming any deadline.
Canceling Is Not the Same as Deleting Your Account
Downgrading ends the paid subscription. Your Airtable account, login, and bases remain. If you also want to close the account, that’s a separate process: you must remove the payment method from every workspace first, and for any workspace where you’re the sole Owner, either transfer ownership or remove all shared users from its bases and interfaces before the account can be deleted. Shared workspaces and bases don’t disappear when you delete your account; they stay with the remaining collaborators. Account deletion isn’t available in the Android app, so use a web browser.5Airtable Support. Creating, Canceling, and Deleting Your Airtable Account
