To cancel your Amazon Prime 30-day free trial, go to your Prime membership page, select the option to end your membership, and click through Amazon’s retention screens until you reach a final button that reads “End on [Date].” If you don’t confirm before the 30 days are up, Amazon charges $14.99 per month or $139 per year, depending on the plan you chose at sign-up. The process takes about two minutes once you know the screens are designed to talk you out of it.
Cancel on Desktop or in the App
Sign in to the Amazon account that holds the trial. The direct route is amazon.com/mm/pipeline/cancellation, which drops you straight into the cancellation flow.1Amazon. Cancel Your Amazon Prime Membership
If you’d rather navigate manually:
- On desktop, hover over “Account & Lists” at the top right, then choose “Prime Membership” and look for the option to update or cancel.
- In the mobile app, tap the profile icon at the bottom, then “Manage Prime Membership.”
Once you’re in, select the option to end your membership. Amazon will show you several screens listing the benefits you’d lose and may offer a discount or a pause instead of cancellation. Keep clicking through. Your cancellation isn’t complete until you reach and press the final confirmation button, usually labeled “End on [Date].” Back out or close the tab before that button, and the trial stays active. The charge will still post on schedule.
If the self-service flow won’t cooperate, open the Customer Service page, choose “Help with something else,” then “Prime.” A representative can cancel for you.1Amazon. Cancel Your Amazon Prime Membership
What Happens After You Cancel
Canceling early does not cut off your benefits. You keep free shipping, Prime Video, and everything else through the original 30-day end date.2Amazon. Sign Up for the Amazon Prime Free Trial After that date, access ends and no charge posts. There’s no reason to wait: cancel the moment you decide you don’t want to keep it. Amazon does not promise a reminder email before the trial converts, so a phone alert a day or two before the end date is worth setting.
If You Already Got Charged
Missing the deadline isn’t necessarily permanent. Amazon’s Prime Terms and Conditions set out two refund tiers:3Amazon. Amazon Prime Terms and Conditions – Section: Membership Cancellation
- Within 3 business days of the charge, you’re eligible for a full refund. Amazon may deduct the value of any Prime benefits you used in that window.
- After 3 business days, a full refund is still available, but only if you haven’t made any qualifying purchases or used any Prime benefits since the charge posted.
If more than three business days have passed and you’ve already streamed something or accepted a Prime delivery, the self-service refund flow probably won’t work. Contact customer service directly and explain the situation. Agents sometimes have discretion to issue partial refunds outside the stated policy.
Cancel Prime Video Channels Separately
This is where people get billed after they thought they were done. Canceling Prime does not cancel any Prime Video channel subscriptions you added, such as Paramount+, Starz, or AMC+. Those bill separately and keep charging your card until you cancel each one. Go to “Manage Your Subscriptions,” find the add-on, and select “Unsubscribe.”4Amazon. Cancel Your Prime Video Add-On Subscription Check this page before or right after ending your Prime trial.
Confirm the Cancellation Went Through
Amazon sends a confirmation email once you click the final button. Check your inbox and spam folder. Then return to your Prime membership page: it should show your membership ending on a specific date, not renewing automatically. If it still shows an active auto-renewing membership, the cancellation didn’t complete, and you’ll need to run through the steps again.3Amazon. Save the confirmation email. If a charge appears after you’ve confirmed cancellation, that email is your evidence when you dispute it with Amazon or your card issuer.
Student and Discounted Trials Work Differently
If you signed up through Amazon’s student program, now called Prime for Young Adults, your free trial runs six months rather than 30 days.5Amazon. Amazon Prime Student The cancellation steps are the same; only the timeline changes. Students also have to re-verify their enrollment periodically, and skipping that step upgrades the account to a full-price membership automatically.6Amazon. Verify Continuing Student Status
Amazon’s Prime Access plan, available to people who qualify through programs like SNAP or Medicaid, costs $6.99 per month and comes with its own 30-day free trial.7Amazon. Prime Access If cost is the reason you’re canceling, switching to that tier is an option before you cancel outright.
