To cancel your Amway membership, send a written resignation to Amway’s Business Conduct and Rules Department stating that you are terminating your Independent Business Owner (IBO) contract.1Amway. Rules of Conduct The resignation itself is simple. The loose ends around it are what cost people money: recurring orders, unsold stock, auto-renewal, and third-party subscriptions that keep billing after you’ve walked away.
Submit a Written Resignation
Amway’s Business Reference Guide requires written communication to the Business Conduct and Rules Department to end your IBO contract.2Amway. Business Reference Guide You can send that request three ways:
- Email: bcr@amway.com2Amway. Business Reference Guide
- Mail: 7575 Fulton Street East, Ada, Michigan 49355
- Fax: 616-787-7896
Include your full legal name, your IBO number, and a clear statement that you are resigning your IBO contract. Keep the language short and unambiguous. Amway’s support portal also indicates that online resignation may be available after you log into your account.3Amway MSB. Available Methods for Resignation Save any confirmation email or receipt. The general customer service line (1-800-253-6500) can answer questions, but the formal resignation goes to Business Conduct and Rules, not customer service.4Amway. Customer Service Support
Or Let the Contract Expire
You don’t have to file a formal resignation. Every IBO contract expires at the end of the calendar year unless you pay the $71 annual renewal fee by December 31.1Amway. Rules of Conduct If you registered between September 1 and December 31, your first contract runs through the following calendar year.5Amway. Is There an Amway Registration Fee Not renewing lets the contract lapse on its own.
A formal resignation ends your contract immediately and lets you become a regular customer right away.2Amway. Business Reference Guide A lapse ends it on December 31. Either way, you stop owing the renewal fee.
Cancel Recurring Orders and Auto-Renewal
Ditto Delivery and any other recurring orders run through the order system, not the membership system. There’s no guarantee they stop automatically the moment your IBO status changes, so cancel them yourself before or at the same time you send your resignation. Log into your account, open order history or subscription settings, and cancel scheduled shipments. If the cancellation window has already closed on a pending order, refuse delivery when the carrier arrives and the package returns to Amway’s warehouse.
Auto-renewal of the membership itself has its own separate unsubscribe process in Amway’s support portal.6Amway MSB. 1Amway. Rules of Conduct
The refund is not dollar-for-dollar. Amway charges back any performance and leadership bonuses that were originally paid out on those products to the IBOs who received them, and charges you freight plus a 10% service charge on the IBO cost of returned products to cover handling and processing.1Amway. Rules of Conduct On a $100 product order, expect roughly $90 minus shipping, with further reductions where bonuses were paid. Products must be unused and currently marketable.
Returning Products You Bought for Yourself
The inventory buy-back is separate from Amway’s customer satisfaction guarantee. The guarantee lets you return most products within 180 days of purchase for an exchange or full refund of the product price and tax. Atmosphere, iCook, and eSpring products have a 120-day window. The satisfaction guarantee explicitly does not cover IBO purchases for inventory.7Amway. Return Policy
Sort your returns before shipping. A case of energy drinks bought to resell goes through the inventory buy-back with the 10% handling charge. A skincare product you bought for yourself and didn’t like goes through the 180-day guarantee at full product-price refund.
Registration and Renewal Refunds
Amway currently charges nothing to register as a new IBO. The initial registration fee is $0, and the annual business renewal cost is $71 after the first contract year.5Amway. Is There an Amway Registration Fee For most IBOs leaving today there is no registration fee to recover.
Amway’s global site notes a 100% refund of registration costs within the first 90 days in the North American market, which matters mainly if you paid under an older fee schedule or if the fee structure changes.8Amway. What Happens to Your Downline
Your Independent Business doesn’t vanish when you resign. Under Rule 6.13, Amway decides its future in accordance with the Rules of Conduct, which in practice typically means your downline is reassigned up your sponsorship line.1Amway. Rules of Conduct You lose all rights to bonuses, commissions, and any volume generated by the network you built. That loss is permanent unless you re-register and rebuild.
You must also return all Line of Sponsorship information to Amway promptly after resigning and stop using it immediately.2Amway. Business Reference Guide That means downline lists, contact details, and volume data. Keeping any of it after you leave is a rule violation.
If You Decide to Come Back
Former IBOs face a six-month cooling-off period before they can re-register.9Amway MSB. Reapplication After Lapsed Renewal Period Rejoining under the same sponsor is immediate. Switching to a different sponsor requires waiting the full six months after your contract ends.1Amway. Rules of Conduct The waiting period exists to prevent sponsor-shopping.
If you only want to buy products at retail without the IBO commitment, you can become a regular Amway customer immediately after termination.2Amway. Business Reference Guide
Taxes and Business Entity Cleanup
Resigning mid-year doesn’t erase tax obligations on income you already earned. If Amway paid you $2,000 or more in commissions or bonuses during the calendar year, it will send a 1099-NEC by January 31 of the following year. The reporting threshold increased from $600 to $2,000 for tax years beginning after 2025.10Internal Revenue Service. Publication 1099 (2026), General Instructions for Certain Information Returns Even below the threshold, that income is still legally reportable on your return.
If you ran your Amway business as an LLC or other separate entity, check whether your state requires a formal dissolution filing. State dissolution fees typically run $25 to $60 and vary by state. An idle entity can keep accruing annual report fees or franchise taxes in some states.
Third-Party Subscriptions Amway Won’t Cancel
Many IBOs pay for business support materials through organizations separate from Amway itself: training platforms, voicemail systems, website hosting for an Amway storefront, motivational content, conference subscriptions, communication tools from an upline’s organization. These bill independently and will keep charging your card after you resign. Pull your recent bank and credit card statements, flag every recurring charge tied to the business, and contact each provider directly to cancel. Missing one can mean months of charges for a business you no longer run.
