To cancel your Audible subscription, go to audible.com from a browser if Audible bills your card directly, or open the App Store or Google Play subscription settings if that is where the charge comes from. Before you click through, spend any unused credits and download the Plus Catalog titles you still want, because both vanish the day your membership ends.
Do These Two Things First
Credits in your account are forfeited when your membership closes, and they do not come back if you resubscribe later. Each one is worth $14.95 or more depending on your plan, so use them on titles you actually want before your final billing day. One narrow exception: credits earned or purchased through an Apple or Google Play membership do not expire and stay in your account after cancellation.1Audible. Cancel Membership
The second thing to check is your library. Titles you bought with a credit or paid for outright are yours forever. Titles you added for free from the Plus Catalog are not. Those remain visible in your library after cancellation but become locked and unplayable.2Audible. The Plus Catalog Scroll through and note which ones came from the catalog so you are not surprised.
Cancel on the Audible Website
If the Audible charge appears directly on your credit or debit card, cancellation runs through audible.com. You cannot cancel from inside the Audible app.
On a Computer
- Sign in at audible.com and click your username in the top navigation bar.
- Select Account Details.
- Click the Cancel Membership link.
- Keep clicking Continue to Cancel on each screen until you reach the confirmation page.
On a Phone or Tablet Browser
- Tap the menu icon (three horizontal lines).
- Tap your account name.
- Tap Cancel Membership and follow the prompts to confirm.1Audible. Cancel Membership
After you finish, Audible sends a confirmation email, and your Account Details page shows the specific date your membership ends. That date is the last day of your current billing period, and you keep full access until then.1Audible. Cancel Membership
Cancel Through Apple or Google Play
If your subscription is billed through the App Store or Google Play, Audible’s own site cannot cancel it. You have to cancel through whichever platform handles the billing, and Audible customer service cannot do it for you.3Audible. Manage App Store Subscription
On an iPhone or iPad, open Settings, tap your name at the top, tap Subscriptions, select Audible, then tap Cancel Subscription and confirm.
On Android, open the Google Play Store app, tap your profile icon, go to Payments & Subscriptions, then Subscriptions. Find Audible in the list and tap Cancel Subscription.1Audible. Cancel Membership
The Retention Offers You’ll See
Audible does not let you cancel in a single click on the website. The flow pushes you through several screens offering discounted monthly rates, cheaper annual plans, or a pause on your membership. The specific offer depends on your account history and how long you have been a member.
You are under no obligation to accept any of them. Keep clicking Continue to Cancel on each screen until you reach the final confirmation. If you change your mind later, you can resubscribe, and returning members sometimes see promotional rates.
What You Keep and What You Lose
You keep every audiobook you bought with a credit, credit card, or debit card. Those titles stay in your library, and you can re-download them through the Audible app or website as often as you want, with or without a membership.1Audible. Cancel Membership
You lose unused credits (except credits earned through Apple or Google Play billing), access to Plus Catalog titles, member discounts on audiobook purchases, and the ability to return titles. Audible’s return policy requires you to be an active Premium member in good standing, so once you cancel, anything you are unhappy with can no longer be exchanged.4Audible. Return a Title
Can You Get a Refund?
Audible’s terms state that membership fees are generally non-refundable.5Audible. Audible Service Conditions of Use If a renewal charge took you by surprise, contact Audible customer service as soon as you notice it. Representatives sometimes issue courtesy refunds for recent charges, particularly if you haven’t used any credits or benefits from that billing cycle. There is no guaranteed right to a refund, so the earlier you ask, the better your odds.
Audible does not pro-rate cancellations. If you cancel five days into a monthly cycle, you keep access through the end of that period but get nothing back for the unused days. On an annual plan, canceling partway through means forfeiting both the remaining months and any unused credits.
If You Just Want a Smaller Bill
Full cancellation is not the only lever. Audible lists a pause option in its help center as a separate choice from cancellation, and the same pause sometimes appears as one of the retention offers during the cancel flow. Pausing stops billing temporarily while preserving your credits and benefits.
You can also downgrade. The Standard (Audible Plus) plan is $8.99 per month and gives you Plus Catalog access without monthly credits, about 40% less than the $14.95 Premium Plus plan.6Audible. Membership Plans and Pricing If you switch from Premium Plus to Standard, your existing unused credits carry over and keep their original expiration dates, which is not the case if you cancel outright.1Audible.
