Check Who Is Actually Billing You
Pull up your card or bank statement and look at the merchant name on the ChatGPT charge. “OpenAI” means you signed up on the website. “Apple” means you subscribed through the iOS app. “Google” means you went through the Play Store. Canceling in the wrong place does nothing to stop the charge, so this one check saves people a month of billing.

Cancel on the OpenAI Website
- Log in at chatgpt.com.
- Click your profile icon and select Settings.
- Select Billing.
- Under Cancel plan, click Cancel and confirm.

Cancel on iPhone or iPad
- Open Settings on your device.
- Tap your name at the top.
- Tap Subscriptions.

- Tap Cancel Subscription and confirm.

Cancel on Android
- Open the Google Play Store app.
- Tap your profile icon, then Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
- Select the ChatGPT subscription.

Canceling a Team or Business Plan
For a ChatGPT Team or Business workspace, only the admin can cancel.
- Log in to ChatGPT.
- Click your profile icon and select Workspace settings.
- Open the Billing tab.
- Open the Manage plan dropdown.
- Select Cancel subscription.

Export Your Chats First
If any of your conversations are worth keeping, export them before you cancel. OpenAI will send you a zip of your history and account data.
- Log in, click your profile icon, go to Settings, then Data Controls.
- Under Export Data, click Export and confirm.
- Wait for the email with your download link. It can take up to seven days.
- Click Download data export in the email. The link expires after 24 hours.

Can You Get a Refund?
OpenAI’s general policy is that subscription fees are non-refundable. Accidental purchases are typically eligible for a refund if you contact OpenAI within 14 days of the charge, and residents of the EU, UK, or Turkey can get a prorated refund if they cancel within 14 days of purchase.6OpenAI Help Center. For a web or Google Play subscription, log in at help.openai.com with the account tied to the charge and open the chat widget in the bottom-right corner. What Happens After You Cancel
Cancellation takes effect the day after your next billing date, so you keep Plus features for the rest of the period you’ve already paid for.1OpenAI Help Center. Existing chat history generally stays accessible on a Plus account after cancellation. Business and Team workspace chats may behave differently, which is another reason to export first if the conversations matter.
Canceling Is Not the Same as Deleting Your Account
