To cancel your child’s subscription, find out which platform is actually billing you — Amazon, Apple, or Google Play — then cancel from inside that platform’s subscription settings. The app your child opens is rarely the company charging your card, and using the wrong cancellation path gets you nowhere.
Find Out Who’s Charging You
Pull up the credit card or bank statement and look at the merchant name next to the recurring charge. “AMZN” or “Amazon Digital” points to Amazon. “APPLE.COM/BILL” means Apple. “GOOGLE*” means Google Play. Wording varies by card issuer, but the platform name is almost always in the description. If it still isn’t clear, search your email for receipts. All three platforms send them automatically.
Once you know the platform, get the login for the account tied to the billing. For Amazon, that’s the account whose payment method is being charged. For Apple, it’s the Family Sharing organizer’s Apple Account. For Google, it’s the account linked to the payment method in Google Play. Have the password ready before you start, because two-factor prompts will slow you down otherwise.
Cancel Amazon Kids+
Amazon Kids+ costs $5.99 per month for Prime members or $7.99 per month without Prime. Cancellation only works in a web browser. The Parent Dashboard mobile app on iOS and Android will not let you do it.
The fastest route is the Parent Dashboard on the web:
- Go to parents.amazon.com.
- Select “More,” then “Amazon Kids+ Subscription.”
- Select “Cancel Subscription” and follow the confirmation prompts.
You can also cancel through your Amazon account’s “Your Memberships & Subscriptions” page. Select Amazon Kids+, click “Cancel My Subscription,” and confirm. Either path works.1Amazon. Cancel Your Amazon Kids+ Subscription
Cancel Through Apple
On an iPhone or iPad, open Settings, tap your name, then tap “Subscriptions.” Every active subscription billed through your Apple Account appears there. Tap the one you want to end, scroll to “Cancel Subscription,” and confirm.2Apple Support. If You Want to Cancel a Subscription From Apple
On a Mac, open the App Store, click your name, choose “Account Settings,” and scroll to the Subscriptions section.2Apple Support. If You Want to Cancel a Subscription From Apple
The Family Sharing Catch
This is where parents get stuck. You cannot cancel a family member’s subscription from your own account, even if you’re the Family Sharing organizer paying the bill. If your child signed up through their own Apple Account, the cancellation has to happen on their device or from their account’s subscription settings. You can sit with them and walk through the steps on their phone or iPad, but Apple will not let you do it remotely from yours.2Apple Support. If You Want to Cancel a Subscription From Apple
Cancel Through Google Play
On an Android device, open the Google Play app and tap your profile picture in the top right. Select “Payments & subscriptions,” then “Subscriptions.” Find the subscription, tap it, and select “Cancel subscription.” Follow the prompts to confirm.3Google Play Help. If your child uses YouTube Premium on a family plan, that one is managed separately. As the plan manager, open the YouTube app, tap your profile picture, go to “Purchases and memberships,” tap your membership, and select “Cancel.” All family members keep access through the end of the current billing cycle, then lose the premium features while keeping their Google Accounts.4Google Help. What You Keep After You Cancel
On most platforms, your child keeps access to the content until the end of the period you’ve already paid for. Cancel on day ten of a thirty-day cycle, and the service still works for the remaining twenty days. Amazon Kids+ confirms this directly: disabling auto-renewal lets you continue through the end of the current billing period, and your card will not be charged again.5Amazon. One exception worth knowing: some Amazon paid software subscriptions can cut off access immediately on cancellation, with no prorated refund for the unused portion.6Amazon. If it says access ends immediately, you may want to time the cancellation closer to the renewal date.
Getting a Refund for What Your Child Already Bought
A kid tapping “Buy” without understanding what they’re doing is one of the most common billing headaches. Each platform has its own process, and the window and success rate differ.
Apple. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in, select “I’d like to,” then “Request a refund.” Pick the reason, select the specific purchase, and submit. Expect a response within 48 hours. If your child’s purchase was charged to the Family Sharing organizer’s payment method, the organizer can request the refund by viewing all purchases charged to the shared method.7Apple Support. Google Play. For a purchase a family member made using your account, use Google Play’s standard refund process. For charges you don’t recognize at all, report them as unauthorized within 120 days of the transaction. Google notes that if you didn’t protect your account with authentication, they usually can’t issue a refund.8Google Play Help. Learn About Google Play Refund Policies
Amazon. Contact Amazon customer service through your account or by phone. For Kids+ and Kindle content, Amazon handles refund requests case by case.
Don’t Call Your Bank First
When a platform refuses, it’s tempting to dispute the charge with your bank. Hold off until you’ve exhausted the platform’s own refund process. Filing a chargeback against a legitimate account balance on Google can get your account suspended, which locks you out of purchases, apps, and content tied to that Google Account. Apple and Amazon carry the same risk: a chargeback flags the account and can trigger restrictions on future purchases or a permanent ban. Treat a bank chargeback as a last resort, used only after the platform has denied your request.
