To cancel a Daily Beast subscription, you have to cancel in the place that’s actually billing you. If you signed up on thedailybeast.com, you turn off auto-renew in your account settings. If you signed up through Apple, Google Play, Amazon, or PayPal, you cancel inside that platform, because The Daily Beast can’t stop a charge it doesn’t process. In every case, your access stays active until the end of the period you’ve already paid for.
Find Out Who Is Actually Billing You
Pull up your bank or credit card statement and look at the merchant name on the recurring charge. “The Daily Beast” or “thedailybeast.com” means you subscribed directly. “Apple,” “Google,” “Amazon,” or “PayPal” means that platform is handling the billing and is the only place that can stop it.
If you can’t tell from the statement, open the confirmation email from when you first subscribed; it names the billing source. You can also log into your Daily Beast account and check the Active Subscriptions page, which lists your billing details and renewal date.
Cancel on The Daily Beast Website
For subscriptions bought directly on the site, log in and open the Active Subscriptions page. Your plan appears with an auto-renew toggle. Slide it off; it turns gray when disabled, and the page then shows the date your access expires.1The Daily Beast. How Do I Cancel My Subscription
A confirmation email follows, verifying auto-renew is off and listing the expiration date. Save it. That email is your evidence if a charge shows up later.
Cancel Through Apple
If you subscribed through the App Store on an iPhone or iPad, Apple handles the billing and The Daily Beast cannot cancel it. Open Settings, tap your name at the top, then tap Subscriptions. Find The Daily Beast, tap it, and tap Cancel Subscription.2Apple. If You Want to Cancel a Subscription From Apple
If there’s no Cancel button and you see a red expiration message, the subscription is already canceled. Apple processes the cancellation right away but lets you keep access until the current billing period ends.
Cancel Through Google Play
On Android, open the Settings app, tap Google, tap your name, and select Manage your Google Account. Go to Payments & subscriptions, then Manage subscriptions. Find The Daily Beast, tap it, and follow the prompts to cancel.3Google Play Help. Cancel, Pause, or Change a Subscription on Google Play
As with Apple, canceling doesn’t cut off access immediately. The subscription runs out at the end of the period you already paid for.
Cancel Through Amazon
In your Amazon account, go to Your Memberships and Subscriptions. Find The Daily Beast, select Manage Subscription, then select Cancel Subscription under Advanced Controls.4Amazon. Manage Amazon Subscriptions
This is the step people most often skip when they subscribed through Amazon and then try to cancel on The Daily Beast’s website. Toggling auto-renew on the Daily Beast site will not stop Amazon from billing you.
Cancel Through PayPal
If PayPal is the billing source, log in and go to Settings, then Payments, then Automatic Payments. Find The Daily Beast, select it, and cancel the automatic payment. In the PayPal mobile app, tap the menu icon, tap Subscriptions, tap the merchant, and choose Stop Paying with PayPal.5PayPal. What Is an Automatic Payment and How Do I Update or Cancel One
After You Cancel: Access, Refunds, and Verification
The Daily Beast does not offer refunds. Their terms are explicit: canceling stops future charges, and no refund is issued for payments already made.6The Daily Beast. Terms of Use Your premium access continues until the expiration date shown in your account or confirmation email. After that, you lose subscriber-only content but can still read free articles.
Check your account dashboard once you’ve canceled. It should show an expiration date instead of a renewal date. If it still shows active billing, you likely canceled in the wrong place. Return to your bank statement, confirm the actual billing source, and cancel through that platform.
If You’re Charged After Canceling
If a charge appears after cancellation, email The Daily Beast at support@thedailybeast.com and attach your cancellation confirmation.7The Daily Beast. Contact Us For a charge processed by Apple, Google, Amazon, or PayPal, contact that platform directly, because they handled the billing.
If the merchant doesn’t resolve it, you can dispute the charge with your credit card issuer. Under the Fair Credit Billing Act, you have 60 days from the date of the statement containing the charge to submit a written dispute to the issuer.8Office of the Law Revision Counsel. 15 USC 1666 – Correction of Billing Errors The issuer must investigate and either correct the charge or explain why it stands. Keep your cancellation confirmation and a screenshot of your account showing the cancellation; those are your evidence.
Deleting Your Account Is a Separate Step
Canceling the subscription stops future charges. It does not delete your account. If you want your profile and personal data removed too, cancel the subscription first, then email a deletion request to android-delete@thedailybeast.com from the email address tied to your account. You’ll get a confirmation once the account is deleted. Deletion is permanent, cannot be reversed, and past payments are not refunded.9The Daily Beast. How Can I Delete My Daily Beast Account
