To cancel your EE plan, the fastest route is a single text: send PAC to 65075 if you want to keep your number, or STAC to 75075 if you don’t, then hand the code your new provider. If you’re not moving to another mobile network, call 150 from your EE handset (or 0800 956 6000 from any other phone) and give 30 days’ notice. Broadband follows a different path, and whether you pay anything to leave depends on where you are in your minimum term.
Check Where You Stand Before You Cancel
Text INFO to 85075 from your EE phone. You’ll get a reply confirming your contract end date and any early exit charges that would apply right now.1EE. Leaving EE – What You Need to Know The same information sits in the EE app and your online account. This one check tells you whether leaving today costs money or nothing at all.
If you took a FlexPay deal, you actually hold two separate agreements: one for airtime, one financing the handset. They run independently. Ending your airtime plan does not clear the device balance, so look at both before you act.
Grab your EE account number from a recent bill or the app while you’re there. Pay-as-you-go customers should spend any remaining credit first, because EE doesn’t refund it once your number moves to another network.1EE. Leaving EE – What You Need to Know
Cancelling EE Mobile
Text-to-Switch If You’re Moving to Another Network
To keep your existing number, text PAC to 65075. To take a new number from your next provider instead, text STAC to 75075.1EE. Leaving EE – What You Need to Know EE replies within about a minute with the code and any early exit charges that would apply.
A PAC (Porting Authorisation Code) transfers your number. A STAC (Service Termination Authorisation Code) shuts down your EE SIM and stops the billing once your new provider activates you.2EE Business. How to Keep Your Mobile Number Both codes stay valid for 30 days. You give the code to your new provider and they handle everything else. There’s no need to phone EE.
Your EE service keeps running until the new provider processes the code, so you won’t be cut off in between. But daily charges keep running too, so don’t sit on the code.1EE. Leaving EE – What You Need to Know Ofcom’s rules require the porting to finish within one working day of your new provider submitting the code.3Ofcom. General Condition C7 – Switching
Cancelling Without Switching Networks
If you’re not going to another provider, call 150 from your EE handset or 0800 956 6000 from any other phone. You’ll need to give 30 days’ notice and your service runs through that period. You can also start the process from your online account.1EE. Leaving EE – What You Need to Know This is the route for people leaving the UK, dropping the number entirely, or moving to a provider that doesn’t use PAC or STAC.
Cancelling EE Broadband
Broadband doesn’t use the text-to-switch codes. It falls under Ofcom’s One Touch Switch process, which launched in April 2023.4Ofcom. Quick, Easy and Reliable Switching
If you’re moving to another broadband provider, only contact the new one. They ask for your current provider and account details, match your account, and notify EE for you. EE then contacts you about anything you still owe. You don’t need to call EE separately.5EE. Switch Broadband Providers to EE
If you’re cancelling broadband outright, perhaps because you’re moving house and won’t need the line, call EE on 150 and give 30 days’ notice. Service runs to the end of that notice period.
When You Can Leave Without Paying Early Exit Fees
EE charges remaining contract fees if you cancel inside your minimum term, but a handful of situations let you go for free.
Your Minimum Term Has Already Ended
Once the minimum term ends, your plan rolls onto a 30-day rolling basis. From that point you can cancel any time, no penalty, with the standard 30 days’ notice.6EE. What Happens at the End of My Plan Plenty of people don’t realise they’re already past that point. Check first.
The 14-Day Cooling-Off Period
If you signed up online, over the phone, or through any channel other than a physical store, UK distance selling rules give you 14 days to cancel without penalty. The clock starts the day after you receive the service or device. You need to tell EE within those 14 days, and any handset has to go back in its original condition.
Broadband Speed Guarantee
EE provides a speed guarantee on broadband under Ofcom’s Voluntary Code of Practice. If your actual speeds drop below the guaranteed minimum and EE can’t fix it after you report the problem, you can leave without early exit charges.7EE. EE Broadband and Speed Guarantee You have to give EE a chance to resolve it first, which may involve an engineer visit. The guarantee covers speed to the hub, not Wi-Fi performance affected by your home layout.
Mid-Contract Price Increases That Weren’t Disclosed
Ofcom requires providers to be upfront about price rises before you sign. If EE raises the price mid-contract without clearly disclosing the increase at the point of sale, you’re entitled to one month’s notice and a penalty-free exit.8Ofcom. Ofcom Bans Mid-Contract Price Rises Linked to Inflation If the rise was clearly spelled out in your contract, this exit right doesn’t apply.
Bereavement
If the account holder has died, EE has a dedicated process to close the account or transfer it. Use the online bereavement form, call 150 from an EE phone, or ring 07973 100 150 from any other phone.9EE. Let Us Know an Account Holder Has Passed Away
How the Exit Charge Is Calculated
If you leave inside your minimum term and none of the penalty-free routes apply, EE bills what it calls a Remaining Contract Charge. The steps are:1EE. Leaving EE – What You Need to Know
- Multiply your monthly plan cost by the number of months left in your minimum term, including any recurring discounts you get.
- Deduct the prevailing VAT rate from that total.
- Deduct a further 4% because EE is receiving the money upfront rather than month by month.
- Subtract any credit sitting on your account.
- Add any outstanding Add to Plan device finance.
- Add VAT back on to reach the final figure.
The number can be uncomfortable if you’re only a few months into a 24-month deal. Text INFO to 85075 to see the actual amount before you request a PAC or STAC. Sometimes waiting a month or two saves more than switching immediately.1EE. Leaving EE – What You Need to Know
Your Final Bill, Refunds, and Returning Equipment
EE posts your final bill within 10 working days of your lines being disconnected.10EE Business. Your Final Bill Explained It covers your monthly charges up to the cancellation date, credits any days you paid for but didn’t use, and adds any out-of-allowance usage. If you left inside your minimum term, the Remaining Contract Charge appears here too.
Leave your Direct Debit active until the final bill clears. A failed Direct Debit triggers a £5 non-payment fee, and continued non-payment adds a £7.68 late payment charge and can lead to EE notifying credit reference agencies.11EE. If the final bill shows a credit balance because you paid in advance for days you didn’t use, EE refunds it automatically about eight days after the final bill date. With an active Direct Debit, the money goes back to your bank; without one, EE sends a cheque to your registered address.10EE Business. Your Final Bill Explained
Broadband hardware is loaned, not given. When you cancel, EE emails a QR code and a printable label for dropping your hub, extenders, and any TV equipment at a collection point. Non-return charges are steep: £70 for a Smart Hub, £85 for a Smart Hub 6 Plus, and £125 for a Smart Hub 7 Pro. Wi-Fi extenders run £55 to £85 depending on the model, and TV devices £60 to £140.13EE.
