To cancel your Great Courses subscription (now called Wondrium), go back to whichever service you originally signed up through: Wondrium’s own website, Apple, Google Play, Amazon, or Roku. Canceling in the wrong place is the single most common reason people keep getting charged after they think they’ve unsubscribed.
Find Out Who Is Actually Billing You
Before you click anything, check your bank or credit card statement. The merchant name on the charge tells you where the subscription lives. If it reads “Wondrium” or “The Great Courses,” you signed up directly on the website. If it reads “Apple,” “Google,” “Amazon,” or “Roku,” that platform is handling your billing and is the only place that can stop it.
You can confirm the same thing inside your account. Log in at wondrium.com, hover over your name in the top-right corner, and select “My Account.” The membership plan section shows your current billing status and payment method. If it says your subscription is managed by a third-party platform, Wondrium itself cannot cancel it for you.
Cancel on the Wondrium Website
If you subscribed directly on wondrium.com or on the old Great Courses Plus site, the cancellation takes about half a minute:
- Log in and hover over your name or email address in the top-right corner.
- Select “My Account” from the dropdown.
- Under “Membership Plan Management,” click “Cancel membership.”
- Confirm when prompted.
The site may offer a discounted rate or a pause option before it lets you finish. Click through those offers until you see confirmation that the subscription is canceled.1The Great Courses Plus. FAQs
Cancel Through Apple, Google Play, Amazon, or Roku
When you subscribe through a third-party app store, Wondrium cannot cancel for you. The billing relationship is between you and the platform.
Apple (iPhone, iPad, Apple TV)
Open Settings, tap your name at the top, then tap “Subscriptions.” Find Wondrium in the list and tap it. Tap “Cancel Subscription” at the bottom of the screen. If there’s no cancel button and you instead see an expiration message in red, the subscription is already canceled.2Apple Support. If You Want to Cancel a Subscription From Apple
Google Play (Android)
Open Settings, tap “Google,” then your name, then “Manage your Google Account.” Tap “Payments & subscriptions,” then “Manage subscriptions.” Select Wondrium and follow the prompts.3Google Play Help. Cancel, Pause, or Change a Subscription on Google Play
Amazon
Go to “Your Memberships and Subscriptions” in your Amazon account settings. Find the Wondrium subscription, select “Manage Subscription,” then select “Cancel Subscription” under Advanced Controls.4Amazon. Manage Your Amazon Subscriptions
Roku
You have two options. On the web, go to my.roku.com/subscriptions, find Wondrium under “Active subscriptions,” select “Manage subscription,” and then “Turn off auto-renew.” On the device, highlight the Wondrium channel with your remote, press the Star button, and select “Manage subscription” to turn off auto-renewal there.5Roku Support. Canceling During the Free Trial
Wondrium offers a 7-day free trial for new subscribers. If you cancel before the seven days are up, you keep access through the end of the trial and no charge hits your card.6Wondrium. My Plans Miss the window and your payment method is charged for the first billing cycle automatically. If you’re still deciding, set a reminder for day five or six. The cancellation steps are the same during a trial as during a paid subscription: cancel through whichever platform you used to sign up.
What Happens After You Cancel
Wondrium does not prorate refunds. Cancel partway through a billing cycle and you keep access to the content library until the current paid period ends, but you don’t get money back for the unused portion.6Wondrium. My Plans This matters most on the annual plan, which runs about $150 per year. If you’re on annual billing and know you want out, check your account dashboard for the exact renewal date and cancel before it hits.
Once you cancel, open your account dashboard and confirm the status reads “canceled” or “expired.” The Great Courses Plus FAQ confirms canceled subscribers keep access through the remainder of whatever period they’ve already paid for.1The Great Courses Plus. FAQs
If Self-Service Doesn’t Work, Contact Support
If the cancel button is missing, the account page won’t load, or you genuinely can’t tell where the subscription originated, Wondrium’s customer care team can help. Two ways to reach them:
- Phone: 844-330-4495, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern.
- Online form: thegreatcourses.com/support/contact-us. Select “Cancelling My Membership” from the dropdown and submit.
There is no direct cancellation email. The online form is the only written option besides calling.7The Great Courses. Contact Us One boundary worth repeating: if you subscribed through Apple, Google, Amazon, or Roku, even Wondrium’s support team cannot cancel for you. They’ll send you back to the billing platform.
Stopping Charges Through Your Bank
If you’ve done the cancellation correctly and charges still keep coming, you can tell your bank or credit union to stop them. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau confirms you have the right to revoke a company’s authorization to pull automatic payments from your account, even if you originally authorized them.8Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. How Do I Stop Automatic Payments From My Bank Account
Call your bank and tell them you’ve revoked authorization. Follow up in writing to create a paper trail. Any payments the company initiates after that are considered errors, and you can ask your bank to refund them. Save this step for after you’ve exhausted normal cancellation channels, since it can leave your account with the merchant in a complicated state.
Your Rights Under the FTC Click-to-Cancel Rule
The FTC’s click-to-cancel rule, codified at 16 CFR Part 425, requires any company that sells subscriptions to make canceling at least as easy as signing up. If you subscribed online, the company must let you cancel online. They cannot force you to call a phone number when enrollment took a few clicks on a website.9Legal Information Institute. 16 CFR Part 425
The rule also bars companies from adding costs or hurdles at cancellation that weren’t there at enrollment, and it requires them to process cancellation requests immediately once you’ve given enough information to identify your account.10Federal Trade Commission. Federal Trade Commission Announces Final Click-to-Cancel Rule Making It Easier for Consumers to End Recurring Subscriptions A long retention pitch, a maze of screens, or a buried cancel button likely violates it.
