To cancel your Hetzner subscription, log in to the management panel that controls the product you want to end — Robot for dedicated servers, Hetzner Console for cloud resources, or konsoleH for web hosting and managed products — and submit a cancellation from inside that panel. The standard notice is 30 days to the end of the month, though most cloud resources can be deleted immediately. Every product is a separate contract, so cancelling one server does not cancel the floating IPs, snapshots, volumes, or backups attached to it, and each of those keeps billing until you delete it individually.1Hetzner Docs. Overview – Canceling Products and Contracts With Hetzner
Find the Right Panel First
You can only cancel a product from the panel that controls it. Using the wrong one means the cancellation option simply won’t appear.
- Robot handles dedicated servers, additional IP addresses, domains registered through Robot, colocation, and software licenses.
- Hetzner Console handles cloud servers, object storage, Storage Boxes, floating IPs, volumes, snapshots, and backups.
- konsoleH handles web hosting packages, managed servers, Storage Shares, domains registered through konsoleH, and SSL certificates.
If you have products spread across two or three panels, you’ll need to work through each one.1Hetzner Docs. Overview – Canceling Products and Contracts With Hetzner
Back Up Your Data Before You Cancel
Deletion happens immediately when a cancellation completes, and Hetzner states it cannot restore data afterwards.1Hetzner Docs. Overview – Canceling Products and Contracts With Hetzner Pull down files, databases, and email archives to your own machine or another provider before you press anything. This applies to cloud servers, web hosting accounts, and managed products alike.2Hetzner Docs. Cancellations on Hetzner Console
Cancelling a Dedicated Server in Robot
Dedicated servers follow the 30-day notice to the end of the month.
- Log in to Robot and click “Servers” in the left menu.
- Select the server you want to cancel.
- Open the “Cancellation” tab.
- Choose your cancellation date and confirm.
You’ll get a confirmation email once it’s recorded.3Hetzner Docs. Cancellations on Robot Save it. The timestamp is your proof if a billing dispute comes up later.
Additional IP addresses and subnets attached to the server have their own cancellation entries on that same tab. They stay active, and billable, if you don’t cancel them separately.4Hetzner Docs. Failover
Cancelling Cloud Resources in Hetzner Console
Cloud servers can be deleted immediately, with no mandatory notice period. Open your project, select “Server,” click the server, then hit “Delete” and confirm. Billing stops the moment the resource is gone.2Hetzner Docs. Cancellations on Hetzner Console
This is where the surprise charges come from. Deleting the server does not delete the resources you provisioned alongside it. Floating IPs, volumes, snapshots, and backups continue to cost money for as long as they exist, whether anything is using them or not.2Hetzner Docs. Cancellations on Hetzner Console Delete each separately:
- Snapshots: project menu, “Snapshots,” delete individually.
- Backups: open the server before deleting it, go to the “Backups” tab, and either deactivate backups or delete individual entries.
- Floating IPs: “Floating IPs” section in the project, delete.
- Volumes: “Volumes” in the project, delete each one.
Storage Boxes and object storage work the same way — separate products, separate cancellations. If it still exists on your account, Hetzner invoices you for it, even when it’s turned off.5Hetzner Docs. Billing System at Hetzner
Cancelling Web Hosting and Managed Products in konsoleH
Web hosting packages, managed servers, and Storage Shares are cancelled in konsoleH. The flow walks you through three decisions:
- Account cancellation. Choose to cancel the hosting account, managed server, or Storage Share. Selecting “Cancel the account” tells the system to delete the entire product.
- Domain handling. If a domain is attached, decide whether to keep, transfer, or delete it.
- Termination date. Pick “Immediately” or a specific date.
Confirm at the end and a confirmation email follows. Your konsoleH customer account itself stays active after every product is gone.6Hetzner Docs. Cancellations of Managed Products via konsoleH
Parked domains or additional domains listed under a main hosting account need to be reassigned or cancelled first, otherwise the main account can’t be terminated.
Transfer Your Domain Before You Finish
If a domain is registered through Hetzner and you want to keep it elsewhere, transfer it before completing the cancellation. In konsoleH:
- Log in and click the domain.
- Go to “Contract,” then “Cancellation.”
- Pick a cancellation date and choose “The domain will be transferred to another provider.”
- Once the cancellation is submitted, find the auth code under “Contract,” then “Account information.”
The auth code only appears after the domain cancellation is submitted; you can’t grab it in advance. Hand that code to your new registrar to start the transfer.7Hetzner Docs. Auth Code on konsoleH If you can’t get into konsoleH (for example, the original account holder is unavailable), you can request the auth code by sending an informal signed letter with a copy of the domain owner’s ID to Hetzner.
Notice Period and the 14-Day Withdrawal Right
The default notice period across Hetzner products is 30 days to the end of the month. Submit a cancellation on March 15 and the earliest end date is April 30. Some products carry different notice periods per their service description, and certain cloud resources can be deleted on the spot.8Hetzner. Terms and Conditions
New customers have a separate 14-day right of withdrawal. Within 14 days of signing up you can cancel the entire contract without giving a reason. Hetzner refunds all payments, though if you used the service during that window they invoice you for the prorated days used. Send a clear written statement (email, letter, fax, or through your customer account) before the 14 days run out; the refund must arrive within 14 days of Hetzner receiving your notice.8Hetzner. Terms and Conditions
Expect One More Invoice
Hetzner bills retroactively. The invoice for a given month arrives the following month, so even after your last product is deleted you’ll still get one more invoice covering the final period of use.9Hetzner Docs. Payment Overview This isn’t a billing error, just the cycle catching up.
Deleting Your Customer Account
Cancelling products does not delete your customer account. To have your personal data removed, wait until all services are terminated and the final invoice is paid, then go to accounts.hetzner.com/account/delete and follow the prompts. The self-service option only works when no active products remain and no invoices are outstanding.10Hetzner Docs. Data Protection at Hetzner
In exceptional cases where you can’t access the account, such as handling a deceased person’s account, email support@hetzner.com with the account holder’s name, customer number, and a list of all associated products. Processing takes around 30 days under the standard notice rules.1Hetzner Docs. Overview – Canceling Products and Contracts With Hetzner After account deletion Hetzner still retains certain personal data until statutory and contractual retention periods expire, which is a legal requirement rather than a choice on their side.
