To cancel your Match account, you actually need to do two separate things: cancel the paid subscription so the charges stop, then delete the account so your profile comes down. Match treats them as different actions, and doing only one leaves either your card or your personal information exposed. Which cancellation path you use depends on where you signed up — through Match’s website, through the App Store on an iPhone or iPad, or through Google Play on Android.1Match. Cancel the Subscription Where You Bought It
Canceling inside the Match app does nothing to stop charges routed through Apple or Google. You have to cancel with whichever company is actually billing your card.
If You Subscribed on the Match Website
Log in on a desktop or mobile browser. Click the gear icon to open settings, then select Manage/Cancel Membership. The site walks you through several screens asking why you’re leaving and offering discounts to stay. Click through to the final confirmation. Match then sends an email confirming the cancellation.1Match. Canceling a Match Subscription
If You Subscribed Through an iPhone or iPad
Match cannot cancel a subscription billed through the App Store. Go through Apple instead:
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap your name at the top of the screen.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Tap Match.
- Tap Cancel Subscription.
If there is no cancel button and you see a red expiration message, the subscription has already been canceled.2Apple. If You Want to Cancel a Subscription From Apple
If You Subscribed Through Google Play
Uninstalling the Match app does not cancel the subscription. You have to cancel through Google Play:
- Open the Google Play Store app.
- Tap your profile icon, then Payments & subscriptions.
- Tap Subscriptions, then Match.
- Tap Cancel subscription and follow the prompts.
Google confirms the cancellation on screen and by email.3Google. Cancel, Pause, or Change a Subscription on Google Play
What Happens After You Cancel
Cancellation turns off auto-renewal. It does not cut off access right away. You keep your paid features until the end of the billing period you already paid for, and no new charges hit after that date.1Match. Canceling a Match Subscription
Your profile stays visible during that window unless you hide or delete it. If you chose a plan that bills in installments, remaining payments may still be owed even after you cancel auto-renewal. Watch for the confirmation email. If it does not arrive within a day, log back in and check your subscription status page. Charges that slip through because a cancellation never fully processed are the most common complaint Match users file.
Delete Your Match Profile
Canceling the subscription stops the billing. It does not take down your profile. To remove your profile, log in and go to settings, select Manage Account, then Delete Account. Confirm when prompted. The profile disappears within about 24 hours.
On the iOS app, tap your profile, then the settings gear, then Manage Account, then Delete My Profile, and follow the confirmation prompts. Cancel any active subscription first, because deleting the profile does not always stop billing that runs through Apple or Google.
What Match Keeps After Deletion
Deleting your account removes your profile from view. It does not wipe your information from Match’s servers. The privacy policy sets out a retention schedule:4Match. Privacy Policy
- Full account data is retained for three months after closure to investigate potential harmful conduct.
- Payment and billing records are kept for 10 years for tax and accounting purposes.
- Customer service exchanges are stored for five years.
- Basic profile information may be kept for one year in anticipation of potential legal claims.
- Server traffic logs are retained for one year.
- Face data from photo verification, if you used it, is deleted within 30 days.
Refunds and Unwanted Renewals
Match subscriptions are generally non-refundable. The full refund policy sits in section 8d of Match’s Terms of Use.5Match. Refund Policy
If a subscription renewed automatically and you did not intend it to, contact Match through its online support form and explain what happened. Match does not offer phone support, so the form is the only channel.6Match. Contacting Match Customer Support
If Match declines a refund and you believe the charge was unauthorized or the renewal terms were not properly disclosed, you can dispute the charge with your bank or card issuer. Keep the cancellation confirmation email as evidence. Banks typically want to see that you tried to resolve the issue with the merchant first.
If You Cannot Access Your Account
If someone changed the email address on your account and you are locked out, contact Match customer support through the online form to verify your identity and regain access or close the account.6Match. Contacting Match Customer Support If charges are still hitting your card and Match is not moving quickly enough, call your bank, explain that the account was accessed without your authorization, and ask them to block future charges from the merchant while the dispute is investigated.
Your Rights Under Federal Law
The Restore Online Shoppers’ Confidence Act requires any seller that uses automatic renewal or negative-option billing to provide a simple way for consumers to stop recurring charges.7Office of the Law Revision Counsel. 15 USC 8403 – Negative Option Marketing on the Internet
The FTC’s implementing regulation goes further. The cancellation method must be at least as easy to use as the method you used to sign up. If you enrolled online, the company has to let you cancel online, and it cannot force you to call, mail a letter, or clear extra hoops that were not part of sign-up.8eCFR. 16 CFR 425.6 – Simple Cancellation If you believe a service is deliberately making cancellation difficult, you can file a complaint with the FTC at ftc.gov/complaint. Complaints do not resolve individual disputes, but they feed the enforcement actions the FTC brings against companies with patterns of abusive billing.
