How to Cancel Your Rogers Phone Plan: Fees, Steps, and Refunds

To cancel your Rogers phone plan, you have to call Rogers or use their live chat; there’s no self-serve cancellation button in the MyRogers app, and stopping payment doesn’t count as cancelling.1Rogers. How Do I Cancel My Services? What it costs you depends on where you are in your contract and whether you’re still paying off a phone. If you’ve been on your plan for at least two years, you owe no early cancellation fee under the CRTC’s Wireless Code.2Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission. Protected by the Wireless Code Any remaining device financing balance, though, becomes due immediately.

Before You Call

Pull up your account number in the MyRogers app or portal (it’s in the navigation menu at the top), or find it on the top left of any paper or PDF bill.3Rogers. Understanding Your Rogers Bill Have the ten-digit number of the line you’re cancelling and your account PIN or security answers.

Check your device financing balance in MyRogers before you dial. If you’re on a 0% financing agreement or in the Save & Return program (formerly Upfront Edge), that balance is where the real money is, and knowing it going in stops surprises and gives you something concrete to push back on if retention offers you a deal.

How to Reach Rogers and What to Expect

Call Rogers customer service or open the live chat on their website.1Rogers. How Do I Cancel My Services? You’ll be routed to a retention agent whose job is to keep you. Expect offers of discounts or plan changes. If you’re leaving, say so, and ask for a confirmation number or email once the cancellation is processed. Without that, disputes about the cancellation date or what was agreed to become your word against theirs.

What Cancelling Will Cost

The Two-Year Rule

The Wireless Code caps contract commitment periods at two years. Even if you signed a longer agreement, you can cancel after 24 months without any early cancellation fee.2Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission. Protected by the Wireless Code If you cancel earlier and got a subsidized device, Rogers applies a fee tied to the remaining subsidy value, and your contract has to spell out the total and how it decreases each month.4Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission. Device Financing Balance

Most Rogers customers now finance phones at 0% interest over 24 months instead of taking a subsidy. Cancelling your service doesn’t end the financing. The full remaining balance becomes due immediately on your final bill.5Rogers. Everything You Need To Know About Financing Your Device On a $1,200 phone at month 12, that’s a $600 lump sum. This is usually the biggest cost of leaving early.

Save and Return

If you’re enrolled in Save & Return, cancelling your service means you lose the option to return the phone. The deferred Save & Return credit plus your remaining financing balance both land on your next bill.6Rogers. How Rogers Save and Return Works: Phone Financing Explained

The 15-Day Trial

If you just signed up or renewed, the Wireless Code gives you at least 15 calendar days of trial from when service begins. Cancel within that window and there’s no early cancellation fee, provided you stayed inside the usage limits Rogers set for the trial and you return any device in near-new condition with the original packaging.4Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission. New Rules Starting June 12, 2026

As of June 12, 2026, the CRTC bans carriers from charging fees for activating, changing, or cancelling a plan when those fees aren’t tied to a device subsidy. The change followed amendments to the Telecommunications Act aimed at fees designed to discourage switching.7Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission. Telecom Regulatory Policy CRTC 2026-43 Device financing and Save & Return balances still apply; generic administrative cancellation fees do not.

If You Want to Keep Your Number

Do not call Rogers to cancel first. Cancelling before you port kills the number, and getting it back is difficult at best. Go directly to your new provider and tell them you want to keep your existing number. They handle the transfer.8Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission. Switch Providers and Keep Your Number

Once Rogers gets the transfer notice from the new carrier, your Rogers service closes automatically. The port usually finishes within a few hours. Wait for the new provider to confirm before checking that your Rogers account shows as closed. Any device financing or Save & Return balance still lands on your final Rogers bill.

Unlock Your Phone First

If your device is locked to Rogers, they have to unlock it for free while you’re a paying customer, and new phones must be sold unlocked. This has been the rule since December 2017.9Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission. We Updated the Wireless Code – What You Should Know Request the unlock before you cancel to avoid any argument about eligibility. Once unlocked, the phone works on any compatible Canadian network.

Returning Rented Equipment

If you rent a modem, TV box, home security camera, or similar hardware, you have 30 days after cancellation to return it. Miss that and you’re charged an unreturned equipment fee.10Rogers. How to Return or Recycle Your Rental Equipment

Returns go through FedEx, not Rogers retail stores. After you cancel, Rogers emails a FedEx waybill within about eight hours. If it doesn’t arrive, check spam or create the return label yourself on the FedEx site. Pack the equipment with power cords and remotes in a sturdy box, attach the waybill, and drop it at a FedEx location. For 5G Home Internet gateways, Rogers sends a Purolator label instead.10Rogers. Before returning or trading in a phone, back up your data and run a factory reset. The reset is permanent.11Rogers. Performing a Factory Reset If you recently got replacement hardware, confirm you’re sending back the old device, not the new one.

Final Bill and Refunds

Rogers generates your final bill on the next regular billing date after cancellation. Cancel partway through a cycle and you get a prorated refund for the unused days, typically by cheque in four to six weeks.12Rogers. What to Expect After Cancelling Your Smartphone Plan

If your final bill shows a credit between $10 and $500, Rogers refunds it automatically. Credit card and pre-authorized bank payments go back to the original method within five business days of the final bill. Cash, debit, or bank transfer payments come back as a cheque mailed within three to four weeks. Credit balances under $10 or over $500 need a phone call to request.13Rogers. Closing an Account After a Death

For a deceased account holder, Rogers uses a separate bereavement process rather than the standard cancellation path. Submit their online bereavement form or contact customer service, and expect to provide a death certificate.14Rogers. Information on Power of Attorney and Account Management If there’s a will, the estate executor should handle it. A power of attorney expires at death, so prior POA status doesn’t substitute for death documentation. Automatic refunds don’t apply here; any credit balance has to be arranged with Rogers directly.13Rogers. How to Get a Refund on Your Credit Balance After Receiving Your Final Bill
