How to Cancel Your Runner’s World Subscription: Hearst, Apple, or Google Play

To cancel your Runner’s World subscription, you have to go through whoever is actually charging you: Hearst directly, Apple, Google Play, or Amazon. Deleting the app or ignoring the magazine does not stop the billing, and contacting the wrong company will not stop it either. Every Runner’s World plan renews automatically until you cancel through the right channel.1Hearst. Terms of Use

Check Who Is Billing You

Pull up your bank or credit card statement and look at the charge description. If it reads “Hearst,” “CDS,” or “Runner’s World,” you subscribed directly through the publisher and need to cancel with Hearst. If it reads “Apple,” “Google,” or “Amazon,” the platform is handling your payment and only the platform can cancel it. Calling Hearst about an Apple-billed subscription will not stop the charges.

If you went through Hearst, grab your account number before you call or log in. It’s the ten-digit number on the second line of your magazine’s mailing label, right above your name, and it also appears in your original confirmation email. Keep your billing zip code and the email on the account handy too.

Cancel a Print Subscription Through Hearst

You can cancel online, by phone, or by email. The online option is the customer service portal linked from the customer service page at runnersworld.com; log in, open your subscription settings, and follow the cancellation prompts until you see an on-screen confirmation.2Runner’s World. Customer Service Email takes a few business days but leaves you a written record if a charge shows up later.

Cancel an All-Access or Premium Membership

Hearst routes digital memberships through a different team. For Runner’s World All-Access (print plus digital) or Premium, call 888-797-9927 or email rwmembership@prevention.com.2Runner’s World. Customer Service The print-only line often cannot process these cancellations and will redirect you, so start with the right number.

Cancel Through Apple, Google Play, or Amazon

If an app store or Amazon is billing you, Hearst cannot cancel for you. Deleting the Runner’s World app does not stop the charges either; the subscription lives in your platform account, not on your phone.

Apple App Store

On your iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, then tap Subscriptions. Find Runner’s World and tap Cancel Subscription.3Apple Support. If You Want to Cancel a Subscription From Apple If you’re on a free or discounted trial, cancel at least 24 hours before it ends to avoid being charged for a full renewal. Not seeing the subscription? Search your email for “receipt from Apple” to confirm which Apple ID made the purchase.

Google Play

Open the Google Play app and go to your subscriptions, or go through Settings, then Google, then Manage Your Google Account, then Payments and Subscriptions. Select Runner’s World and tap Cancel Subscription.4Google Play Help. Cancel, Pause, or Change a Subscription on Google Play Access continues until the end of the period you already paid for.

Amazon

In your Amazon account, open Your Memberships and Subscriptions. Find Runner’s World, select Manage Subscription, then choose Cancel Subscription under Advanced Controls.5Amazon. Manage Your Amazon Subscriptions

Refunds and Remaining Access

Print and digital cancellations are treated differently. If you cancel a print subscription through Hearst, you get a refund for any undelivered issues, returned to your original payment method.1Hearst. Terms of Use Issues already in the shipping pipeline will still arrive.

If you cancel a digital membership, including the digital portion of an All-Access plan, there is no prorated refund. Your access runs out at the end of the current billing period and then stops.1Hearst. Terms of Use The same end-of-period rule applies to cancellations made through Apple, Google Play, or Amazon.

One thing worth knowing about the auto-renewal itself: an introductory rate (say, $5) renews at the regular rate, which can be considerably higher. Hearst has to notify you before a price change takes effect and give you a chance to cancel first.1Hearst. Terms of Use

Watch Your Statements for a Cycle or Two

Keep your cancellation confirmation. Whether it’s an email from Hearst, an Apple or Google confirmation, or the Amazon notice that your subscription expires on a specific date, that record is your evidence if a charge appears after you canceled. Check your bank statement through the next one or two billing cycles. If a renewal still goes through, use the confirmation to dispute it with the biller or your card issuer.
