To cancel your Splitwise Pro subscription, go through whichever platform processed your original payment: Apple’s App Store if you signed up on an iPhone or iPad, Google Play if you signed up on Android, or Splitwise’s website if you subscribed there directly. Cancel at least 24 hours before your next renewal date, or you’ll be billed for another cycle before the cancellation takes effect.1Splitwise. Splitwise Terms of Service Your Pro features stay active through the end of the period you already paid for, and your expense history stays intact when the account reverts to the free version.
Find Out Which Platform Billed You
You can only cancel through the platform that’s charging you, so start there. Check a recent bank or credit card statement. Apple charges usually appear as “Apple.com/bill.” Google Play charges often read as “Google*Splitwise” or something similar. If neither matches, you most likely subscribed through the Splitwise website.
Getting this right the first time saves you from digging through the wrong settings menu and assuming the cancel button is missing when it’s actually on a different platform entirely.
Canceling on iPhone or iPad
Open Settings, tap your name at the top, then tap Subscriptions. Find Splitwise in the list, tap it, and tap Cancel Subscription. You may need to scroll to see the button. Red expiration text means the subscription is already canceled.2Apple Support. If You Want to Cancel a Subscription From Apple
The App Store route works too: tap your profile icon in the upper right, then Subscriptions. Same destination. Apple requires cancellation at least 24 hours before the end of your current billing period.3Apple. Splitwise App
Canceling on Android
Open the Google Play Store app, tap your profile icon, and choose Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions. Tap Splitwise, then Cancel subscription, and follow the prompts to the confirmation screen.4Google Play Help. Cancel, Pause, or Change a Subscription on Google Play
Google may ask why you’re leaving or offer a discount to keep you. Skip past those screens. What matters is the final confirmation. If Splitwise isn’t listed at all, you subscribed somewhere else.
Canceling on the Splitwise Website
If you subscribed directly through splitwise.com, sign in and open your account settings. Look for the subscription or billing section, then disable auto-renewal or cancel outright, and confirm on any follow-up screen so the system actually processes the change.5Splitwise. Subscription Success
Website subscriptions follow the same 24-hour cancellation deadline. The Splitwise terms state that Pro subscriptions renew automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the current billing period ends.1Splitwise. Splitwise Terms of Service
The 24-Hour Deadline
The rule is consistent across Apple, Google, and Splitwise: cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date. Miss the window and you get charged for another month or year before the cancellation kicks in.1Splitwise. Splitwise Terms of Service
The practical move is to cancel as soon as you’ve decided. You keep access to Pro through the period you already paid for, so waiting until the last day only creates risk.
What Happens After You Cancel
Pro features stay active until the end of the billing period you paid for. After that, the account reverts to the free version. Expense history, group balances, and shared data all stay in place.
What goes away are the Pro tools: receipt scanning, currency conversion, charts and graphs, expense search, unlimited daily expenses, and the ad-free experience.6Splitwise. Splitwise Pro If you want a copy of your data first, you can export a CSV from the Splitwise website: open a group or friend, click the gear icon, and choose “Export as spreadsheet.”7Splitwise. If You Were Charged for a Renewal You Didn’t Want
Refunds go through the platform that took the payment. For Apple, visit reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with your Apple ID, find the Splitwise charge, and select “Request a refund.” Apple usually responds within 48 hours, and approval isn’t guaranteed.8Apple Support. Request a Refund for Apps or Content That You Bought From Apple
For Google Play, open the Play Store app, go to your purchase history, find the charge, and request a refund. Google’s policies vary by subscription type and how recently the charge posted. In both cases, acting quickly helps. Splitwise’s terms don’t describe a direct refund process for app store purchases, so the billing platform is where refunds happen.
If Charges Keep Appearing After You Cancel
First, check the dates. A charge for a period that started before you canceled is the final charge, not a new one.
If you’re genuinely being billed after a confirmed cancellation, contact the billing platform’s support team; Apple and Google both have subscription dispute processes. If that fails, you can dispute the charge with your credit card issuer, and federal law gives you 60 days from the statement date to send a written dispute of a billing error.9Federal Trade Commission. Using Credit Cards and Disputing Charges You also have the right to stop preauthorized electronic transfers from a bank account by notifying your bank at least three business days before the next scheduled charge.10eCFR. 12 CFR Part 205 – Electronic Fund Transfers (Regulation E) Keep a screenshot or email confirmation of your cancellation. That evidence is often what decides a dispute.
