The Instagram disabled account appeal form is reached by attempting to log in to the disabled account and tapping the review prompt that appears, or by opening Instagram’s Help Center page on disabled accounts.1Instagram. About Disabled Instagram Accounts It is free, takes a few minutes, and usually leads into an identity check before Instagram makes a final call. What you write and what you upload matter more than how many times you submit it.
How to Open the Form
The most direct route is to try logging in to the disabled account. Instagram will display a message that the account has been disabled and offer an option to request a review. Tap that prompt and the appeal form loads.1Instagram. About Disabled Instagram Accounts If the login screen does not surface the option, search “disabled account” in the Instagram Help Center and open the same page from there.
What to Have Ready Before You Start
Pull these together in one place before you open the form:
- Your full legal name, matching whatever ID you may need to send later.
- Your exact Instagram username, including any periods or underscores.
- The email address you used to create the account, or the most recent one saved in your settings. Instagram sends follow-ups here.
- The mobile number linked to your profile, if you added one. It may be used for secondary verification.
If you no longer have access to the email on file, you can still submit the form. Verification will take longer and may require more proof that the account is yours.
Filling In the Form
The form asks for your name, username, email address, and country. One field asks you to explain why you are appealing. That field is the one that matters. State briefly that you believe the account was disabled in error, and if you can, say why the flagged content did not violate the guidelines. Two or three calm sentences read better to a reviewer than a long plea.
Be specific where you can. If the account was disabled for impersonation and you are the real person behind the name, say so and note that you can provide ID. If a specific post appears to have triggered the action, address that post directly. If you genuinely do not know why the account was disabled, say that plainly rather than guessing.
Identity Verification
Instagram often follows up asking for proof of identity. It accepts any government-issued ID that shows your name and a recent photograph, including a driver’s license, passport, or national identity card.2Instagram. Types of ID Instagram Accepts
Photograph the document on a flat, evenly lit surface with all four corners visible in the frame. Skip the flash; it puts glare across the text and photo. A reviewer needs to read your name and date of birth and see your face clearly. Blurry or cropped submissions are one of the fastest ways to stall an appeal.
Video Selfie
Instagram may ask you to confirm your identity through a video selfie instead of, or in addition to, a photo ID.3Instagram. Why You Might Be Asked to Upload a Video Selfie The prompt asks you to turn your head in different directions so the system can confirm you are a real person and match your face to the profile. Skipping the video can end the appeal, so treat it as mandatory when it appears. Instagram says the video is processed by automated systems, is not posted anywhere or shown to other users, and is deleted within 30 days.
After You Submit
Instagram sends a confirmation email once the appeal is in the queue. Keep it. That email is your only record that the request was filed.
Decisions can take up to 90 days, though some come back within a few days.4Instagram. What to Do if You Do Not Think Instagram Should Have Taken Down Your Content Enforcement waves and seasonal spikes in reports push wait times toward the longer end. Do not submit duplicate appeals; extra tickets for the same account slow things down rather than speed them up. The final decision arrives at the email you provided. A successful appeal restores the account with posts, followers, and messages intact.
If the Appeal Is Denied
A denial leaves you with limited options. You can try a second appeal if you have new information that was not in the first, but Instagram does not promise it will reconsider.
The Meta Oversight Board is generally not available for disabled-account appeals. It requires an active account on the platform where the decision was made, which a disabled account is not, and it is designed for disputes over specific removed posts rather than whole-account disabling.5Oversight Board. FAQ If the account was tied to a business, any Meta Business Support channel you already have access to may offer a separate escalation route.
To recover photos, messages, or other data before the account is permanently deleted, submit Instagram’s data access request form at help.instagram.com/contact/505535973176353. You will get an automated reply; respond to it explaining that the account is disabled and that you want to download your data. Instagram may then ask you to verify ownership of the phone number or email on the profile before sending a download link. It can take several attempts, and disabled account data is not kept indefinitely.
Habits That Make an Appeal Stronger
- Match everything. The name on the appeal, the name on your ID, and the name on the account should all line up. Mismatches create doubt about ownership.
- Submit from the email address associated with the account. It carries more weight than a random address.
- Do not create a new account to replace the old one while the appeal is pending. It can look like ban evasion.
- Respond quickly to any follow-up. Delays on an ID or video-selfie request can cause Instagram to close the appeal before it is reviewed.
