To complete the CPCC Visiting Student Form, you first need a North Carolina residency determination, an accepted general application to Central Piedmont Community College, and an activated student login; only then can you open the form itself, which takes three to five business days to process after you submit it.1Central Piedmont Community College. Three Steps Before You Can Open the Form
The form sits behind a CPCC student login, so there is no shortcut to it. Plan on finishing all three preliminary steps before you expect to see the form at all.
Start with the North Carolina Residency Determination Service interview at CFNC.org. The interview decides whether you pay in-state or out-of-state tuition, and North Carolina’s rule requires at least twelve months of uninterrupted domicile in the state, with the burden of proof on you.2NC Residency Determination Service. NC Residency Determination Service Out-of-state students still complete it and are simply classified as non-residents.
Next, submit the general CPCC application through the CFNC application portal. This is the same application any incoming student files, and it creates your student record in Central Piedmont’s system.1Central Piedmont Community College. Visiting or Non-Degree Seeking Students
Once admissions confirms the application, activate your Central Piedmont login at the account activation page. Wait about an hour after activation before you try to sign in; the system needs that time to process your credentials.1Central Piedmont Community College. Visiting or Non-Degree Seeking Students
What the Visiting Student Form Asks For
With your login working, open the Visiting Student Form through the link on Central Piedmont’s visiting student page.1Central Piedmont Community College. Visiting or Non-Degree Seeking Students Have the following in front of you before you start:
- The exact rubric and number of the CPCC course you plan to take, such as ENG 111 or MAT 171. Confirm against your home institution’s transfer equivalency guide that it satisfies the requirement you need.
- Your legal name, date of birth, and contact information. The RDS number from your residency interview is also useful.
- The name of the home institution where you are currently enrolled.
Many home schools issue their own letter of permission or transient student form that pre-approves specific courses. CPCC does not list this as a required attachment, but getting one from your home registrar before you enroll protects you if a question comes up later about whether the credits will transfer back.
If Your Course Has a Prerequisite
Many CPCC courses are gated by a prerequisite, and the form alone will not clear it. The North Carolina Community College System requires each college to verify that students have the knowledge and skills needed for the course.3North Carolina Community College System. Email a CPCC advisor with your unofficial transcript or test score reports showing you’ve completed the equivalent coursework. The advisor can override the prerequisite hold once you’ve documented it.4Central Piedmont Community College. Send Transcripts to Central Piedmont
If an official transcript is required, CPCC accepts them electronically through Parchment, National Student Clearinghouse, and eScrip. Mailed or hand-delivered transcripts must arrive in a sealed envelope, since an opened one loses official status. The mailing address is P.O. Box 35009, Charlotte, NC 28235.4Central Piedmont Community College. Send Transcripts to Central Piedmont You can check receipt by logging into MyCollege, choosing the Student menu, going to Academic Profile, and selecting “External Transcript Recv’d.”
After You Submit
Give the admissions office three to five business days to process the form. Watch your Central Piedmont student email, not your personal email, for a follow-up with next steps. That message confirms your visiting student status is active and tells you when you can register.1Central Piedmont Community College. Visiting or Non-Degree Seeking Students
Approval does not reserve a seat in any class. Once you have the confirmation email, register through MyCollege or the Central Piedmont mobile app. Visiting students register alongside everyone else, first come, first served, and summer sections fill fast. If a course is full, you can join the waitlist; CPCC’s registration policy lets any student waitlist a class at capacity, with no stated restriction for visiting students.5Central Piedmont Community College. Tuition and Payment Deadlines
North Carolina residents pay $76 per credit hour below 16 credit hours, capped at $1,216 at 16 or more. Out-of-state students pay $268 per credit hour, capped at $4,288. A typical three-credit course costs about $228 in-state or $804 out-of-state.6Central Piedmont Community College. Tuition Rates: For-College-Credit Courses
Registration is only complete once your balance is paid or reaches zero. If anything is still owed at the payment deadline, your classes are dropped automatically.7Central Piedmont Community College. Tuition and Fees Deadlines shift based on when you register. For fall 2026, students who register between March 27 and July 27 owe payment by July 27; later registrations have progressively later deadlines through August 17. Once the semester begins, payment is due every Monday: register Tuesday through Sunday and you pay the following Monday; register on a Monday and you pay the same day.8Central Piedmont. Payment Dates: For College-Credit Courses
Visiting students are generally not eligible for financial aid through CPCC. If your home institution has a consortium agreement, ask your home school’s financial aid office whether aid can extend to courses taken at Central Piedmont.
Sending the Credit Back to Your Home School
CPCC does not automatically forward your grades. After the course ends, request an official transcript through Central Piedmont’s Student Records office. CPCC uses electronic providers including Parchment and the National Student Clearinghouse, and community college transcripts typically run between $0 and $10.4Central Piedmont Community College. North Carolina’s Comprehensive Articulation Agreement transfers community college credits to UNC System schools when you earn a C- or higher, but it applies specifically to the Associate in Arts and Associate in Science pathways.9North Carolina Community College System. If You Hold an F-1 Visa
The standard visiting student process does not apply if you are an F-1 student enrolled at another U.S. institution. Federal regulations at 8 CFR 214.2(f)(6)(iv) govern concurrent enrollment, and your current Designated School Official must authorize the arrangement through SEVIS before you begin.10ICE (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement).
