How to Fill Out and Submit a PSI Exam Application Form

To complete a PSI exam application form, pull the Candidate Information Bulletin for your specific license from psiexams.com, gather your Social Security number and a legal name that matches your government-issued ID, fill in the form (either the paper version in the bulletin or the online registration portal your state board uses), and pay the exam fee at the time you submit.1PSI. PSI Exam Application Form PSI Services LLC administers these exams on behalf of state licensing boards in fields like real estate, insurance, and contracting, and each board sets its own rules on top of PSI’s process.2PSI Services LLC. Start With Your Candidate Information Bulletin

The bulletin is where the correct application lives. It names your form, lists your fees, specifies acceptable ID, and either contains the paper application or directs you to the right online portal. Using the wrong bulletin — a neighboring state’s, or an older edition after a fee change — is one of the quickest ways to get your paperwork rejected.

Go to the test-taker page at psiexams.com and filter by industry and state.1PSI. PSI Exam Application Form Pick your profession (real estate salesperson, insurance producer, general contractor, and so on) and the state board that issues your license. Open the bulletin that comes up, confirm it is the current version, and keep it handy. Everything that follows ties back to it.

What to Have Ready Before You Start

Having your information in front of you before you open the form prevents the most common delays.

  • Social Security number. Nearly every state board requires it on the application. Federal law under the Social Security Act ties the SSN requirement to child support enforcement, and licensing agencies must collect it as a condition of issuing professional licenses. If you don’t have an SSN, some boards accept an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number — check your bulletin.3Social Security Administration. 42 U.S.C. 666 – Requirement of Statutorily Prescribed Procedures to Improve Effectiveness of Child Support Enforcement
  • Legal name exactly as it appears on your government-issued ID. The name on your application has to match your photo ID character for character. A mismatch at the testing center means you won’t be allowed to sit for the exam.2PSI Services LLC. Michigan Real Estate Licensing Salesperson and Broker Examinations
  • Proof of required coursework. If your license requires pre-licensing education, you’ll need proof you finished it. Many boards assign each approved school a provider code that goes on the application; some accept the code alone, others want an official certificate or transcript attached. Education certificates don’t last forever — depending on state and profession, they can expire in anywhere from one to four years, so confirm your certificate is still valid before you submit.4Alabama Administrative Code. • The right exam selection. Many licensure exams have separate national and state-specific portions. Your bulletin tells you which segments to register for. Choose the wrong one and you’ll pay again to register for the right exam.

Completing the Form

Some boards still use a paper form included in the Candidate Information Bulletin. Others have moved entirely to online registration through PSI’s portal, and a few require a separate state step before you can register with PSI at all. Michigan, for example, requires real estate salesperson candidates to first obtain state authorization through Michigan’s MiPLUS system before registering with PSI, while broker candidates register with PSI directly.2PSI Services LLC. Michigan Real Estate Licensing Salesperson and Broker Examinations Your bulletin will tell you whether a two-step process applies to you.

If you’re filling out a paper form, use black ink and follow the MM/DD/YYYY date format unless the form specifies otherwise. Fill every field. A form submitted with missing information or inconsistencies triggers a review that can push processing back by weeks, and false statements on a licensing application can result in permanent bars from licensure.

For online registration, you’ll create an account on PSI’s system. Enter the first and last name exactly as they appear on your government-issued ID.2PSI Services LLC. After your personal details and exam selection are in, the system will route you to payment before the registration is complete.

Paying the Fee

You pay at the time you register. Credit cards — Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover — are the standard payment method for both online and phone registration.2PSI Services LLC. Fees vary by state and profession. For a sense of scale, Tennessee’s real estate affiliate broker exam runs $63 for both portions combined, and a timeshare salesperson exam there costs $42. Fees in other states generally fall between about $35 and $100 per attempt. Your bulletin lists the exact fee, so rely on that rather than estimates.

If your employer or school is sponsoring your exam, prepaid vouchers are available for bulk purchase through PSI’s online store.6PSI Online Store. PSI Exam Vouchers Ask before paying out of pocket. Some programs also use exam tokens entered during online checkout in place of a credit card.

The exam fee is separate from other licensing costs. Many boards require background checks and fingerprinting, which typically run an additional $38 to $50, and your board may charge a license application fee on top of the exam registration fee.

What Happens After You Submit

Whether you can schedule your test right after submitting depends on your state board. Some boards must first approve your eligibility and electronically transmit that authorization to PSI, in which case scheduling typically becomes available within 24 to 48 hours after PSI receives the authorization.7PSI. Processing times vary widely. Some boards clear candidates in days; others take considerably longer. Requesting Accommodations

If a disability affects your ability to take the exam under standard conditions, request accommodations before you schedule. Submit the request through PSI’s Accommodations Request Form online — not by phone.9HiSET. HiSET ADA Accommodations Supporting documentation has to come from a medical authority or specialist, on their professional letterhead, and include:

  • Your name
  • A description of the disability and how it limits your ability to test under standard conditions
  • The specific accommodation being requested (extra time, separate room, screen reader, and the like)
  • The name, title, and phone number of the medical professional
  • Their original signature

Incomplete documentation slows approval or leads to denial, so confirm every element is included before you file. Don’t leave this to the week of your test.

Rescheduling and No-Shows

Once you have an appointment, PSI’s rescheduling window is tight. The general policy requires at least two business days’ notice to reschedule without penalty.7PSI. Test Taker Support Your program may require more — some boards impose three or more days — so check your bulletin for the exact deadline.

Fail to show up without canceling in advance and you’ll typically be marked a no-show. That usually means your exam fee is forfeited and you’ll have to pay again to register for a new appointment. Some boards also impose a waiting period before you can reschedule. If you know you can’t make your appointment, reschedule through your PSI account as soon as possible.
