How to Fill Out and Submit the AANP Preceptor Form: CE Credits

The AANP preceptor form lets a certified nurse practitioner turn clinical precepting hours into continuing education credit toward recertification. Download the current form from the AANPCB website under the Recertify tab, fill in your certification and precepting details, use the Preceptorship Conversion Table to translate hours into credits, and upload the completed PDF through your NPCB online profile. The ceiling is 120 preceptor hours, which converts to a maximum of 25 non-pharmacology CE hours within your five-year certification period.1American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board. Who Can Claim Precepting Hours

You qualify if you hold an active AANPCB certification and supervised graduate-level NP students, or interprofessional students from medicine, physician assistant, pharmacy, or similar programs, while practicing in your certified role and population focus.2American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board. Converting Preceptor Hours to CE Credits

Preceptor hours do not translate one-to-one. The conversion table in the Recertification Handbook scales hours down, and the ceiling is firm: 120 preceptor hours yields at most 25 non-pharmacology CE hours, no matter how many additional hours you logged.3American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board. Continuing Education Opportunities – AANPCB

Those 25 credits replace non-pharmacology CE only. They cannot count toward the 25 pharmacology CE hours required for recertification. Even at the maximum, you still need at least 75 additional CE hours (25 in pharmacology and 50 in other topics) to reach the 100-hour total.1American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board. Once approved, the converted CE credits post to your recertification record and count toward your 100-hour requirement. Keep your own copy of the completed form and any correspondence with the educational institution. The board may audit CE documentation, and originals should be easy to pull.

If You Are Applying for Initial Certification

The preceptor form on the Recertify page is not for students or new graduates. Initial certification applicants provide preceptor information directly within the certification application itself. That application asks for the names, credentials, and clinical settings of each preceptor who supervised your program’s clinical hours, and it’s accompanied by an unofficial transcript and a copy of your nursing license.5American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board.
