How to Fill Out and Submit the American Eagle Employment Application

The American Eagle employment application is submitted entirely online through AEO’s careers portal at hcml.fa.us2.oraclecloud.com, which handles hiring for both American Eagle and Aerie stores. There is no paper form. If you have your work history, school information, and weekly availability in front of you, the whole thing takes about 15 to 30 minutes.

Who Can Apply

You need to be at least 16 to work at an American Eagle or Aerie store. Management and key-holder roles require you to be 18 or older. Federal law under the Fair Labor Standards Act allows most non-hazardous work starting at 14, but employers can set a higher minimum, and AEO does.1U.S. Department of Labor. Age Requirements

If you are under 18, check whether your state requires a work permit or employment certificate before you start a job. Rules vary by state — some require permits for all minors, others require none at all.2U.S. Department of Labor. Employment/Age Certificate

What to Have Ready Before You Start

You won’t upload documents during the application, but you’ll need the information from them. Pulling this together first keeps you from stalling in the middle of the form.

  • Full legal name, address, phone, email, and Social Security number. The SSN is used for tax reporting and for background screening after a conditional offer.
  • Previous employers’ names and addresses, your job titles, employment dates, and supervisor names with phone numbers. The portal asks for jobs in reverse chronological order.
  • High school or college names and locations, plus any degrees or diplomas.
  • Your open hours for every day of the week.
  • Contact information for professional references.

You do not need Form I-9 identity documents at this stage. I-9 verification happens after you accept a job offer, not during the application.3U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification

Finding and Applying to a Specific Store

Go to aeo-inc.com/retail-careers or the Oracle-hosted job board directly. You can filter by brand (American Eagle, Aerie, or OFFLINE by Aerie), job category, and location. Typing a zip code pulls up stores within a reasonable radius.

Each listing shows the job title, the store, and whether the role is part-time or full-time. Click into a listing to read the responsibilities before applying. If nothing is open where you want to work, you can set up a job alert through the portal.

Apply to a specific store rather than the brand generally. Each location’s manager reviews applications submitted to that store, so a targeted application lands in front of the person who can actually hire you.

Filling Out the Form

Clicking Apply prompts you to create a candidate account or sign in. The account keeps your profile on file so you can apply to multiple listings without starting over.

Contact information comes first, then your employment history. Give specific descriptions rather than generic ones. “Processed 40+ transactions per shift and maintained a clean fitting room area” tells a hiring manager more than “provided customer service.” If your past jobs weren’t in retail, translate the experience: cash handling is register experience, stockroom organization is inventory work.

The education section asks for school name, location, and whether you graduated. Current students can enter an expected graduation date.

Then comes the availability grid, which is where many applications quietly fail. You mark the hours you can work for each day of the week. Stores most need coverage during evenings, weekends, and holidays, so the wider your availability — particularly Saturdays and Sundays — the more competitive you are. If school hours or another job limit you, mark those limits honestly. Getting hired for shifts you can’t actually work creates problems quickly.

The Background Check Screen

Before you submit, you’ll see a disclosure about background checks. Under federal law, any employer planning to pull a consumer report on you — including criminal history or credit information — has to give you a clear written notice in a standalone document and get your written authorization before ordering the report.4Office of the Law Revision Counsel. 15 USC 1681b – Permissible Purposes of Consumer Reports The Federal Trade Commission has said this disclosure should not be bundled with accuracy certifications or liability waivers.5Federal Trade Commission. You’ll also attest that your information is truthful and sign the application electronically. Review every section before submitting. Once you hit submit, that application locks and cannot be edited. A typo or an availability change means applying to another listing or contacting the store directly.

After You Submit

A confirmation email arrives shortly after submission. If you don’t see it, check your spam folder, since automated messages from Oracle-hosted portals sometimes get filtered.

You can check your status by signing back into the portal and going to Manage Profile, which shows your active submissions and any updates. Most applicants hear back within one to two weeks when a store is actively filling a position. Slower seasons take longer, and some stores only review applications when an opening comes up.

If a hiring manager is interested, the next step is usually a phone screen or an in-person interview. Group interviews are common for sales associate roles, especially during seasonal hiring. Expect questions about customer service scenarios and your comfort working in a fast-paced environment.

If two weeks pass with no response, calling the store to ask about your application status is reasonable. Introduce yourself, mention when you applied, and ask whether the position is still open. Keep it short.

Seasonal Hiring

AEO ramps up hiring in the fall for the holiday shopping season, with seasonal postings typically appearing on the portal in September or October. These roles are temporary, but strong seasonal hires are often offered ongoing part-time positions afterward.

The application itself is the same one used year-round. The difference is pace: stores are filling multiple roles at once, so you may hear back faster, and applying early in the cycle gives you a better shot before positions fill.
