The ODU Campus Change Request Form is a short Kuali Build web form, linked from the Office of the Registrar’s forms page at odu.edu/registrar/forms, that moves your official campus designation between the Norfolk main campus, ODU Online (in-state or out-of-state), and ODU’s regional higher education centers.1Old Dominion University. Forms You sign in with your active MIDAS ID, enter your name, your eight-digit University Identification Number, and the semester you want the change to take effect, then select the new designation.2Old Dominion University. If your MIDAS account is inactive because you were away from ODU for a while, reactivate it through the Returning Student page before you try to open the form.1Old Dominion University. Forms MIDAS is the single sign-on that also controls Email, Canvas, Leo Online, and Banner, and reactivation involves identity validation, two-factor authentication through Duo Mobile, and a few other setup steps.4Old Dominion University. Confirm Your Program Is Offered in the New Format
Before filing, check that your degree is actually available under the designation you’re switching to. Not every ODU major runs fully online. ODU’s own guidance is to confirm the program is offered online, and if it isn’t, to work with your advisor or program director to verify that every remaining course you need to graduate is available as an online section.3ODUGlobal. Reversing a campus change is harder than preventing one.
Why the Designation Controls What You Can Register For
Your campus designation isn’t just a label on your record. Banner enforces campus restrictions at the course-section level, and instructors and advisors can’t override them.5Old Dominion University. Registration FAQs Online courses are split into parallel sections coded by campus assignment:
- WEB2 and WC2 sections are for students assigned to the Norfolk main campus.
- WEB5 and WC5 sections are for students assigned as Online in Virginia.
- WEB7 and WC7 sections are for students assigned as Online outside Virginia or outside the United States.
These sections are crosslisted and share an enrollment cap, so even open seats in your section can be unavailable if the crosslist group is full, and you can’t register for a section whose code doesn’t match your designation. If you’re hitting a “campus restriction” error in Banner, open Prepare for Registration, check the campus listed under your Primary Curriculum, and either select a section coded for your current designation or file the Campus Change Request Form to fix the designation itself.5Old Dominion University. What Changes on Your Bill
Switching between Norfolk and ODU Online can move your cost per credit hour by a lot, especially for out-of-state students. For 2026–27, the base undergraduate rate at Norfolk is $268 per credit hour in-state and $953.50 out-of-state; ODU Online undergraduate is $444 per credit hour for students outside Virginia. Graduate rates run $486 in-state and $1,334.50 out-of-state at Norfolk, and $649 for ODU Online outside Virginia.6Old Dominion University. Fees shift too. All students pay the $162-per-credit-hour mandatory comprehensive fee. Norfolk campus students pay an additional $154-per-credit-hour mandatory auxiliary tuition fee that ODU Online students do not. The $170-per-semester student health fee and the $63 transportation fee apply only when any of your courses are officially designated as Norfolk campus courses. If You Live in Campus Housing
Switching to ODU Online does not release you from a Housing and Dining Contract. ODU’s policy states that registering as an online student “will not be considered extenuating circumstances” for a release. The contract is binding for the full academic year. To try to get out of it, you file a separate Petition for Release through the Housing Portal. Even an approved petition still costs you a prorated room charge through your checkout date plus a $200 cancellation fee, and a denied petition leaves you on the hook for the full contract amount. Canceling Your Housing and Dining Contract Treat the campus change and the housing petition as two separate processes, and plan for the possibility that housing denies the release even after the registrar approves your switch.
If You Use VA Education Benefits
For Post-9/11 GI Bill (Chapter 33) users, going fully online cuts the Monthly Housing Allowance. In-person training uses the DoD BAH rate for an E-5 with dependents at the school’s zip code. For online-only students who first used benefits on or after January 1, 2018, the MHA is capped at $1,169 per month, which is half the national average, regardless of where you live. Taking at least one in-person class while taking others online can keep you at the higher resident rate.9Veterans Affairs. ODU requires students using VA benefits to submit a Veterans Clearance Form roughly 30 days before each term for priority certification.10Old Dominion University. VA Education Benefits A campus change isn’t listed as a trigger for a new Clearance Form the way a major change or an enrollment break is, but the shift in training mode can still affect your certification.11Old Dominion University. If You’re on an F-1 Visa
SEVP rules allow only one class or three credit hours of online instruction to count toward the full-course-of-study requirement each term.12Study in the States.
