How to Fill Out and Submit the Plaid Privacy Request Form

Plaid’s privacy request form, at my.plaid.com/data-subject-request-form, is where you ask the company to send you a copy of the personal data it holds about you or to delete that data from its systems. The form takes a few minutes. The part worth slowing down for is picking the right tool for what you actually want, entering contact details that match Plaid’s records, and understanding what deletion does to the apps you’ve connected.

Access or Delete — And When to Use the Portal Instead

The form gives you two choices: request a copy of your data, or request that Plaid delete it. Pick access if you want to see what Plaid has pulled from your bank through apps like Venmo, Robinhood, or Chime. Pick delete if you want it wiped.

Before you fill anything out, check whether the form is even the right tool. Plaid runs a separate consumer dashboard called the Plaid Portal, also at my.plaid.com, where you can see which apps are connected to your financial accounts, disconnect a specific app, and delete individual account data without touching the rest.1Plaid Consumer Help Center. How Can I View and Manage App Connections Made Using Plaid Use the portal when you want to remove one connection while keeping others working. The form is grounded in privacy laws, primarily the California Consumer Privacy Act and, for people in the EU, the General Data Protection Regulation. It works regardless of where you live.2Plaid. Can I Remove App Access or Delete My Data From Plaid

Filling Out the Form

Open my.plaid.com/data-subject-request-form. The form asks for:3Plaid. Privacy Request Form: Access/Delete and Other Data Protection Rights

  • First name and last name. Both are optional, but providing them helps Plaid locate your records faster.
  • Email. Use the address you gave the financial app when you first linked your bank account through Plaid.
  • Phone. The number tied to those app accounts.
  • Location. Your country or region, which determines which privacy law governs the request.
  • Request type. Access (download) or delete.

The email field is where most requests go wrong. Plaid’s records are keyed to whatever contact information your financial institution and connected apps handed over. If you signed up for Venmo with one email and Robinhood with another, Plaid may hold separate profiles under each address. Check the account settings inside each of your financial apps before filling out the form, and if you find different emails, submit a separate request for each one.

Before you submit, you’ll confirm you’ve read Plaid’s privacy policies. The form also warns that deletion is not reversible.3Plaid. Privacy Request Form: Access/Delete and Other Data Protection Rights

What Happens After You Submit

Plaid may email you to ask for additional information verifying your identity before it processes the request.3Plaid. Privacy Request Form: Access/Delete and Other Data Protection Rights This is to stop someone else from pulling or wiping your data with just your email address. Watch your inbox. If you don’t respond, the request can stall.

Under the CCPA, a business has 45 days from receiving a verifiable consumer request to deliver the information or complete the deletion, with one additional 45-day extension available if the company tells you about the delay within the first window.4California Legislative Information. California Code, Civil Code CIV 1798.130 That’s the outside boundary; most requests resolve sooner.

For an access request, Plaid compiles a report and sends a secure download link to the email you gave. For a deletion request, you get a confirmation once the purge is done. Plaid notes that its compliance with any request is subject to legal limitations and exceptions.3Plaid. Privacy Request Form: Access/Delete and Other Data Protection Rights

The data Plaid holds is broader than most people expect. It can include identifiers like name, date of birth, and Social Security number; the login credentials you used to link accounts; balances and transaction history; credit, loan, and investment details; payroll and tax information; and device data such as IP address and browser.5Plaid. What Deletion Actually Does to Your Connected Apps

This is where readers get tripped up. Deletion removes the data from Plaid’s own systems and stops Plaid from sharing any new information with your connected apps.6Plaid. How Do I Delete Financial Accounts From the Plaid Portal It does not pull back data those apps already received, and it does not cancel any payment authorizations you’ve set up.

After deletion, apps that relied on your Plaid connection will stop getting fresh balance and transaction data. Features like automatic balance checks, spending trackers, or income verification can break. If an app only used Plaid once to verify your bank at setup and now communicates with the bank directly, you may notice nothing. If the app depends on a live Plaid link, expect it to stop working until you reconnect.

Plaid recommends contacting each connected app separately if you want your data removed from their systems too.6Plaid. How Do I Delete Financial Accounts From the Plaid Portal A Plaid-only deletion leaves a copy of whatever they already pulled sitting inside each app.

One more note: if you reconnect a bank account through a Plaid-powered app later, Plaid starts collecting your data again from scratch.3Plaid. Privacy Request Form: Access/Delete and Other Data Protection Rights

If that doesn’t move things, California residents can file a complaint with the California Privacy Protection Agency at cppa.ca.gov. The complaint form asks you to identify the business, specify which right was violated, and say whether you already contacted the company. You can file it unsworn or sworn; a sworn complaint means you attest under penalty of perjury and authorize the agency to contact Plaid on your behalf.7California Privacy Protection Agency.
