You apply for a job at Publix online through the company’s Talent Application Portal at storejobapplication.publix.com, and you’ll need a free publix.com or Club Publix account to begin.1Publix. Begin Your Application – Publix Store Job Application The form walks you through your personal information, work history, store preferences, weekly availability, and a short situational assessment. Once you submit, your application stays active and visible to hiring managers for 30 days, and the average time from application to hire runs about 14 days.
Who Can Apply
Publix hires applicants as young as 14. The application asks for your age range up front because certain store jobs involve equipment that federal law keeps younger workers away from.2Publix. Need Help – Publix Store Job Application
If you’re under 18, you can’t operate power-driven meat slicers (including in the deli), bakery mixers and dough machines, trash compactors or balers, or forklifts. The restriction covers operating and cleaning that equipment, even if a manager asks you to help. If you’re 14 or 15, federal rules also cap your daily and weekly hours and limit when in the day you can work, and your state may impose tighter limits on top of that.3U.S. Department of Labor. What to Have Ready Before You Start
Gather everything before you open the portal. Stopping mid-application to track down a former supervisor’s phone number is how people submit sloppy forms that hiring managers scroll past.
- A publix.com or Club Publix login. If you don’t have one, you can register free during the application flow.1Publix. Begin Your Application – Publix Store Job Application
- Your full legal name, current address, phone number, and email.
- Work history details for each prior employer: company name, your job title, dates employed, reason for leaving, and a supervisor’s name and phone number. If you’ve never held a formal job, school volunteer work or extracurricular leadership can fill the section.
- Your weekly availability, worked out before you sit down. The portal asks for specific hours by day, so know your school schedule, other commitments, and transportation limits in advance.
- References who can speak to your reliability. Former supervisors or teachers work best. Give them a heads-up so they’re not surprised by a call.
You don’t need a resume or any physical documents to complete the application itself. Identity and work-authorization documents come in later, during Form I-9 verification, if you’re hired.4U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. Form I-9 Acceptable Documents
Filling Out the Application
Go to storejobapplication.publix.com and click “Apply to Store.”5Publix. Retail Talent Acquisition Gateway Sign in with your publix.com or Club Publix account, or create one if you haven’t yet.
Stores and Positions
You’ll pick which store locations you’re willing to work at. Select every location within a reasonable commute. A manager only sees your application if they’re hiring at that specific store, so applying to a single branch sharply narrows your odds. You’ll also choose which departments interest you. Publix stores typically staff grocery, produce, deli, bakery, meat, pharmacy, and front-end customer service, and selecting more than one department broadens your visibility with no downside.
Weekly Availability
This section matters most to hiring managers. You’ll mark the exact hours you’re available each day. Grocery stores need coverage from early morning through late evening, seven days a week, so applicants with open weekend and evening availability stand out. Be honest. Listing hours you can’t actually work creates scheduling conflicts that pull you out of the rotation quickly. If your schedule genuinely allows flexibility, show it, because managers building shift grids favor people who fill hard-to-cover slots.
The Situational Assessment
After the standard fields, the portal gives you a personality and situational judgment questionnaire. The format is forced-choice: you pick between two statements even when neither feels like a perfect fit, and there’s no neutral or skip option. The questions probe how you’d handle customer interactions, workplace stress, and teamwork scenarios. Don’t try to game it. The test flags inconsistent answers, so respond honestly rather than guessing at what sounds right.
After You Submit
Once you click submit, a confirmation message appears and a follow-up email lands in your inbox. Save that email.

Publix recommends refreshing your application every 30 days to keep it visible, and even a small change like adjusting availability or adding a reference resets the clock.6Publix. 6 Tips for Getting a Job at Publix If you applied once and never heard back, this is usually why: the application expired before a manager had an opening to fill. You can log in as a returning applicant any time to reactivate or edit your profile.
The Interview
When a manager has an opening that matches your profile, you’ll typically get a phone call or email inviting you in. Most Publix interviews are one-on-one conversations with the hiring manager rather than panel interviews.
Expect questions about availability, your goals, and how you’d handle a difficult customer. “Tell me about yourself” is a near-universal opener; prepare a 60-second answer covering where you are now, what drew you to Publix, and what kind of work energizes you. For store and warehouse positions, clean casual clothing works: a polo or button-down with khakis or jeans, no ripped clothing, no open-toe shoes.
Hiring moves relatively fast for retail. Entry-level roles like bagger can be filled within days, while more specialized positions take longer. If a week passes after your interview with no word, a brief follow-up call to the store is appropriate. Don’t call daily.
Documents and Background Check After an Offer
Once you accept an offer, Publix will ask you to complete Form I-9 to verify your identity and work authorization. Bring original documents; photocopies aren’t accepted. The simplest route is a single “List A” document like a U.S. passport, which covers both identity and work eligibility. If you don’t have a passport, combine a “List B” document such as a driver’s license or state ID with a “List C” document such as a Social Security card or birth certificate.4U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. Publix also runs a background check. Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, the company has to get your written permission before pulling that report.7Federal Trade Commission. Background Checks – What Employers Need to Know Some positions, especially in the deli and bakery, may require a food handler certification depending on your state. Ask your store manager during onboarding whether Publix covers the fee or whether you’ll need to get the certificate on your own.
