How to Fill Out and Submit the Target Employment Application Form

You submit a Target employment application through the company’s Workday-based careers portal at corporate.target.com/careers, where you search openings, create a candidate account, and send your information straight to the store or facility’s hiring team.1Target. Our Hiring Process Most people finish the form in under 30 minutes.2Target Corporation. About Target

Set Up Your Workday Candidate Account

Go to corporate.target.com/careers and open the job search tool. Filter by category (store, distribution center, or corporate), location, or keyword. When a listing fits, click Apply. The portal asks you to create an account tied to a valid email address. That email becomes your login and the channel for every status update, interview invitation, and offer letter, so pick one you actually check.

Once the account exists, you can populate the form four ways:1Target. Our Hiring Process

  • Type your information into each field manually.
  • Upload a resume and let Workday autofill the matching fields.
  • Reuse data from a prior Target application on your account.
  • Connect your LinkedIn profile and import your work history.

Autofill saves time, but read every field afterward. These tools sometimes scramble job titles or drop dates, and inaccurate entries slow down the hiring team’s review.

What to Have Ready Before You Start

Gather these details so you’re not hunting for them mid-form:

  • Full legal name, current address, phone number, and email.
  • Work history: previous employers, job titles, approximate employment dates, and a short description of your responsibilities. Supervisor names and phone numbers aren’t required at this stage for most hourly roles.
  • Highest level of education completed and the school’s name. A high school diploma or GED is enough for most store and warehouse jobs.

Target does not ask for your Social Security number on the initial application. That is collected later, after a conditional offer, as part of the pre-hire screening and tax paperwork. The form does ask whether you are legally authorized to work in the United States, which ties into the Form I-9 verification every employer completes after hiring.3U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. Set Your Availability Carefully

Store and distribution center applications include an availability grid where you select the days and hour ranges you can work. Hiring managers filter candidates by shift coverage, and a narrow window can push your application down the list for the shifts most stores struggle to fill: early mornings, evenings, and weekends.1Target. Our Hiring Process

Be honest, but show any flexibility you have. Marking yourself open to weekends or early-morning stocking hours signals that you can cover the gaps. Specific schedule adjustments can be worked out during the interview.

The Skills Assessment

Some positions include a short assessment inside the application, usually multiple-choice questions covering situational judgment and workplace preferences.1Target. Our Hiring Process You may be given a scenario, such as an unhappy guest, a coworker conflict, or a safety concern on the sales floor, and asked to rank your responses or choose the best action.

Answer the way you’d actually handle each situation rather than trying to guess a preferred answer. Plan on about 20 to 30 minutes to finish comfortably.

Legal Disclosures You’ll Sign

Before you submit, the application walks you through several disclosures. None of these decide the hiring outcome on their own, but skipping or misunderstanding one can stall the process.

Background Check Authorization

Target asks you to authorize a background check. The Fair Credit Reporting Act requires written consent before an employer can pull a consumer report on a candidate.4Federal Trade Commission. Fair Credit Reporting Act Your electronic signature lets Target request criminal history and, for certain roles, credit information through a third-party reporting agency. Under federal law, these agencies generally cannot report adverse information older than seven years, though that limit does not apply to positions with an annual salary of $75,000 or more.5Office of the Law Revision Counsel. 15 U.S.C. 1681c – Requirements Relating to Information Contained in Consumer Reports Most hourly retail roles sit below that threshold, so the seven-year window applies.

Work Opportunity Tax Credit Questionnaire

The application includes a short questionnaire tied to IRS Form 8850, which helps Target determine whether hiring you could qualify the company for the Work Opportunity Tax Credit. Questions ask whether you are a veteran, receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits, participate in Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, or belong to another IRS-defined targeted group.6Internal Revenue Service. Work Opportunity Tax Credit Answers are used strictly for the tax credit and are kept separate from the hiring evaluation.7Internal Revenue Service. Voluntary Self-Identification

You may also see optional questions about race, gender, veteran status, and disability. These support federal equal employment opportunity reporting and have no bearing on whether you get an interview. You can decline any or all of them.

Submit and Confirm

After every section is filled in, the system shows a review page with all your entries. Read it carefully. A wrong phone number or a typo in your email means the hiring team can’t reach you, and they will move on. When it’s clean, you sign electronically and submit. Electronic signatures carry the same legal weight as ink signatures under federal law.8Office of the Law Revision Counsel. 15 U.S.C. A confirmation screen appears right away, followed by an email to the address on your account. Bookmark your Workday Candidate Home page. That dashboard is where you track your application status and respond to any follow-up requests.9Target. Jobs at Target

What Happens After You Apply

Target’s recruitment team reviews your application and may reach out by email or phone to talk about the role. Not every applicant gets a call. For many positions, the next communication is an interview invitation or a status update inside Workday.1Target. Our Hiring Process

Interviews come in a few formats:

  • Phone or virtual interview with a hiring manager.
  • In-person interview at the store or facility.
  • Recorded video interview: Target Careers emails you a link, you record answers to pre-set questions on your own time, and a recruiter reviews the video afterward.10Target. Recorded Video Interviews

For a recorded video interview, expect a response within five business days of submitting your recording. If nothing arrives after ten days, contact the Target location directly and ask for human resources.10Target. Recorded Video Interviews If you were told a video interview invitation would arrive but it hasn’t, wait at least three hours, then check your spam folder and confirm you’re looking at the inbox tied to your Workday account.

Once you clear the interview, the offer arrives as an email notification with instructions to view the offer letter in Workday. The letter states your position, pay rate, and benefits. You accept electronically through the portal and finish any remaining pre-hire tasks, including confirming personal information and signing documents.1Target. Our Hiring Process

Age and Eligibility Requirements

You must be at least 16 years old to work at a Target store. Some specialized roles, including asset protection, require applicants to be 18 or older. Distribution center and warehouse roles typically set a higher minimum age because of the equipment involved. If you’re under 18, focus your search on general store team member positions.

Pay and Benefits

Target’s starting hourly wage for store team members runs from $15 to $24, depending on role, location, and local market conditions.11Target. Pay and Benefits at Target Beyond the hourly rate, team members get a benefits package that’s broad for retail:12Target Corporation. Employee Pay and Benefits

  • Team discount of 10% at all Target stores and Target.com, plus 20% off wellness products and adult owned-brand apparel.
  • Dream to Be education assistance covering roughly 500 certificate, bootcamp, and degree programs from more than 40 schools, many at no cost to the team member.
  • Medical, vision, and dental plans for eligible team members, with prescription drug discounts and free 24/7 virtual care through CirrusMD.
  • Free, confidential access to mental health professionals through Spring Health, available to all team members and their families.

Benefits eligibility depends on your role and average weekly hours, and the specifics appear in your offer letter and onboarding materials. Knowing what’s on offer before you apply gives you a clearer view of total compensation beyond the hourly number.
