How to Fill Out and Submit the Young Adult Alcoholic Beverage Waiver Form

Norwegian Cruise Line’s Young Adult Alcoholic Beverage Waiver is a one-page form you pick up at the Guest Services desk after boarding. A parent sailing on the same voyage completes and signs it with the 18-to-20-year-old guest present, both show photo ID, and the young adult’s onboard account is coded to allow beer and wine purchases while the ship is in international waters. The form is not available before the cruise and cannot be submitted by mail or online.

Where and When to Get the Form

The waiver is only available onboard, at Guest Services, after embarkation.1Norwegian Cruise Line. What Is the Minimum Age for Purchase and/or Consumption of Alcoholic Beverages There is nothing to download, print, or sign in advance. Go to the desk early on embarkation day. Lines grow through the afternoon as more guests board and start sorting out account questions.

What the Form Asks For

The waiver itself is straightforward. Have this information ready before you walk up to the desk:

  • Full legal names of both the young adult and the signing parent, matching the names on travel documents.
  • Dates of birth for both parties, confirming the young adult is 18, 19, or 20 on the sailing date.
  • Booking confirmation number and stateroom numbers for both the young adult and the parent.
  • The parent’s signature on the liability section, accepting responsibility for any alcohol-related incidents involving the young adult.
  • The young adult’s signature acknowledging the beer-and-wine limit and the consequences of violating it.

Check every field before you hand it back. A misspelled name or a wrong cabin number sends you back to the line.

Submitting It at Guest Services

Both the young adult and the parent need to appear at the desk together. Staff witness the signatures, so a pre-signed form delivered by one person will not be accepted. Bring government-issued photo identification for both of you. A passport is the simplest choice since you already carry one for the voyage.

If you are a legal guardian rather than a parent, bring your guardianship paperwork along with your ID. NCL’s published FAQ uses the word “parent,” and Guest Services staff may ask for proof of the relationship before processing the waiver. The separate Parent/Guardian Consent and Release Form NCL uses for minors sailing without both parents asks signers to attach a copy of a driver’s license or other government-issued ID and requires both living parents or legal guardians to sign.2Norwegian Cruise Line. Once the IDs check out against the ship’s manifest, the staff member updates the young adult’s onboard account electronically. From that point, bar staff can verify authorization when the young adult orders. The whole visit takes a few minutes if the form is filled in correctly.

What the Waiver Lets the Young Adult Order

Beer and wine. That is the entire scope. Spirits, liquor, and cocktails stay off-limits for anyone under 21 on U.S. sailings, waiver or no waiver, and bartenders will decline orders outside those limits at the point of sale.3Norwegian Cruise Line. Alcohol Consumption

If you have pre-purchased a drink package through Free at Sea or bought an Unlimited Open Bar add-on, ask Guest Services how that package interacts with the beer-and-wine restriction when you submit the form. NCL’s published policy does not spell out the overlap, and clarifying it at the desk prevents surprises at the bar.

When the Waiver Is Active

The waiver only operates while the ship is in international waters on U.S.-departing sailings outside Alaska and Hawaii.4Norwegian Cruise Line. Guest Conduct Policy – Section: Alcohol In any port, and while the ship is still within U.S. coastal waters, the U.S. drinking age of 21 applies and the authorization on the young adult’s account is inactive.

Several itineraries are excluded outright. Alaska sailings, Hawaii sailings, and China/Asia voyages do not allow the waiver at all, and the drinking age stays at 21 regardless of parental consent.1Norwegian Cruise Line. What Is the Minimum Age for Purchase and/or Consumption of Alcoholic Beverages

On the other end, you do not need the waiver at all on roundtrip Australian, European, and New Zealand sailings. NCL sets the drinking age at 18 on those routes, and guests aged 18 to 20 can purchase alcoholic beverages without any parental consent form.1Norwegian Cruise Line. What Happens If the Rules Are Broken

NCL can revoke drinking privileges, temporarily or permanently, for any guest who violates the alcohol policy or the Guest Code of Conduct. For a young adult on the waiver, that covers ordering spirits, passing drinks to anyone under 18, and any behavior the ship’s management considers dangerous.3Norwegian Cruise Line. Repeat violations go further. NCL’s policy allows immediate disembarkation at the next port of call, at the guest’s own expense, for continued alcohol abuse or policy violations.3Norwegian Cruise Line.
