Where to Download the Form
The current fillable PDF sits on the HRODD portal under “Application Forms for Appointment,” labeled “UAB FORM 1A Academic Staff Application For Appointment Form.”1University of Ghana. Forms for Senior Members Some hiring departments attach it directly to job advertisements, so check the posting you responded to before downloading a separate copy.
Who the Form Covers
One form handles every academic senior member rank at the University of Ghana: Assistant Lecturer, Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor, and Professor. Research Fellows follow a parallel track and use the same form.2University of Ghana. 2023/2024 Staff Statistics You specify the position and department you are applying to at the top of the document.
Appointments are made on merit, fairness, and non-discrimination, and each application is weighed against four statutory criteria: teaching, research and scholarly works, service to the university, and public or professional service. The appointing authority also considers formal qualifications, professional qualifications, and soft skills. The Assistant Lecturer rank is transitional, lasting up to three years and renewable once, for candidates who have registered for or are expected to register for a terminal degree. Once you earn that degree, you become eligible for a Lecturer appointment.3University of Ghana. Revised Statutes of the University of Ghana – Statute 39
Completing the Form Section by Section
Fill every field. Gaps and vague entries slow the review committee and can push an application out of contention before it reaches the Board.
Position and Personal Particulars
At the top, write the exact title you are applying for (“Lecturer,” “Senior Lecturer,” and so on), the subject area, and the department, institute, or school. Then fill in your surname, first names, mailing address, email, telephone number, nationality, home town, nationality at birth, any former names, surname at birth, date and place of birth, marital status, and details about your children if applicable.4University of Ghana. Education
List every secondary school and university you attended with dates, then itemize each qualification, the class or distinction earned, and the date and place of award. The committee will compare your entries against your official transcripts, so be precise. If you completed graduate coursework, the form asks you to describe your research area separately from the degree listing.
Present and Previous Employment
For your current post, give the institution or organization, your position, the dates of service, and your emoluments broken into basic salary, allowances, and other compensation. For prior employment, list each organization, dates, and position held. Account for the full timeline; unexplained breaks invite questions.
Teaching Experience
Record every institution where you have taught, the dates, whether you worked full-time or part-time, and the specific subjects and levels. Teaching is one of the four statutory criteria, so this section matters even if your profile leans toward research.5University of Ghana. Revised Statutes of the University of Ghana – Statute 40
Listing Your Publications
The form breaks publications into three categories:4University of Ghana. UAB FORM 1A Academic Staff Application Form
- Books, with publisher and date of publication.
- Articles in refereed journals, with journal name, date, and page numbers.
- Others, including unpublished papers accepted for publication in refereed journals, conference proceedings, and similar work. For anything accepted but not yet in print, you must supply evidence of acceptance.
Candidates applying for Senior Lectureship and above can indicate which titles they want the committee to assess, and will be asked to send two copies of those works when requested. Keep the physical or digital copies accessible so you can deliver them quickly once asked.
After the list, write a brief statement on your areas of special academic interest and the research projects you plan to pursue in coming years. Tailor it to the specific position rather than reusing a generic statement; the committee reads it to judge fit with the department’s direction.
Naming Three Referees
The form requires three referees, and at least two must be people who taught you or supervised your academic work. For Senior Lectureship and above, referees can be colleagues you have worked with rather than former supervisors.4University of Ghana. UAB FORM 1A Academic Staff Application Form Provide each referee’s full name and current contact address. Contact them before you submit. The committee may write to them independently, and a referee caught off guard becomes a bottleneck outside your control.
The Final Section
The last part asks about membership in learned or professional associations, extra-curricular activities, and your availability for duty. If you are under contract elsewhere or need to give notice, state that plainly so the committee can plan a realistic start date. Sign and date the completed form.6University of Ghana. The twelve-copy rule exists because the application is routed to several reviewers at once: the department head, external assessors, and committee members each need their own set. Submitting fewer copies delays the file. For questions on submission, HRODD can be reached at +233-(0)302-213820 or pad@ug.edu.gh.7University of Ghana. Welcome – HRODD
What Happens After You Submit
The Head of your prospective unit reviews the application first. For positions at Senior Lecturer and above, an External Assessor evaluates your scholarly output. The file then goes to the Registry Appointments and Promotions Review Committee (RAPRC), which reviews everything, may interview you, and makes a recommendation to the University Appointments Board. The Board makes the final decision.8University of Ghana. Seminar on Revised Appointment and Promotion Guidelines Held at RID The university does not publish a standard processing timeline, so expect variability tied to external assessor availability and committee meeting schedules.
If Your Degree Is from Outside Ghana
Foreign qualifications must be evaluated by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC, formerly the National Accreditation Board) before your appointment can be finalized.9AAMUSTED. Overview of Accreditation Process Start that evaluation as early as possible. It runs on its own schedule, and a delay there will hold up your appointment even after the Board approves the rest of your application.
