The ASHA compliance form is the online certification maintenance submission you file through My Account on the ASHA website to confirm you’ve completed the professional development hours (PDHs) required to keep your Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) active. It’s due by December 31 of the last year in your three-year maintenance interval, and if you’ve logged every hour through ASHA’s CE Registry, the form may be submitted for you automatically.1American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. When the Form Is Due
Your three-year maintenance interval starts on January 1 of the year after you first received your CCC or were reinstated. If you were certified in 2024, your interval runs January 1, 2025 through December 31, 2027.2American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. FAQs: Maintenance Intervals
You don’t have to wait. Once you’ve accumulated the required hours, you can submit the form at any point within that three-year window.1American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Submitting Certification Maintenance Compliance Forms The December 31 of the final year is the latest you can file without putting your certification at risk of lapsing.
What You Need Before You Open the Form
You need 30 PDHs during each three-year interval. One PDH equals one clock hour of activity (or 0.1 ASHA CEU). Of those 30 hours, at least 3 must come from specific required content areas.3American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Requirements for Maintaining Your ASHA Certification
The three mandatory hours break down this way:4American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Professional Development Requirements for Certification
- 1 PDH in ethics — topics like applying the ASHA Code of Ethics, ethical decision-making models, confidentiality, boundary issues, ethics related to technology platforms and patient records, or multicultural issues in ethical practice.
- 2 PDHs in cultural competency, humility, and diversity — topics such as accommodating services to meet individual needs, multilingual assessment and treatment, communication differences, neurodivergent populations, transgender and gender-diverse populations, or guided reflection on professional topics.
The remaining 27 hours can come from any activity within the audiology or speech-language pathology scope of practice: conferences, employer-sponsored in-service training, university coursework, online continuing education, or independent study plans.
One point of confusion worth clearing up: if you supervise clinical fellows or students, you need 2 hours of supervision training, but that’s a one-time requirement after you’re awarded the CCC, not a recurring one, and it’s separate from the recurring 2-hour cultural competency requirement.5American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Pull Your Records First
For each activity you plan to report, the form asks for the full title of the course or activity, the sponsoring organization, the date of completion, and the number of hours earned. Gather that information before you log in. It saves you from hunting through old email mid-submission.
Keep certificates of completion, letters of participation, and college transcripts. Those are the documents ASHA accepts as proof if you’re selected for audit. Sign-in sheets, registration receipts, and course brochures are not acceptable documentation, so don’t rely on those alone.6American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Record Keeping Form for Professional Development Hours (PDH) Audit If you can’t produce acceptable documentation for an activity, it can’t be counted.
Before you submit, verify three things: your hours total at least 30, your 1 ethics hour and 2 cultural competency hours are accounted for separately, and no single activity is counted toward more than one content area.
How to Submit
Log in to My Account through the link at the top of any ASHA webpage and follow the instructions on the compliance form submission page.7American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. FAQs: Submitting Certification Forms Enter each activity individually (title, sponsor, date, hours) until your cumulative total meets the requirement. The form includes fields or checkboxes to confirm you’ve completed the mandatory ethics and cultural competency hours.
After you click submit, the system generates a confirmation screen. Watch for the automated email receipt, and check your member profile page over the next few business days; it should update from pending to complete.
Automatic Submission Through the CE Registry
If you’re a paid CE Registry user for every year of your maintenance interval and the registry shows at least 30 PDHs, ASHA submits your compliance form on your behalf. You don’t need to do anything.7American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. FAQs: Submitting Certification Forms
This is where people get caught. If you’ve used the CE Registry each year but have fewer than 30 PDHs recorded there, you still have to submit the form manually through My Account. The automatic submission only triggers when the full 30 hours sit in the registry.
If You’re Selected for Audit
ASHA randomly audits a portion of certificate holders, and you find out immediately upon submission whether you’ve been selected.8American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Certification Maintenance Audit Procedures
If you’ve been using the CE Registry and it shows at least 3.0 ASHA CEUs (30 PDHs) for your interval, you won’t need to submit anything else. The registry records are your proof.8American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Certification Maintenance Audit Procedures
If you don’t use the CE Registry, you have 60 days from the audit notification to send ASHA a completed Record Keeping Form, a certificate of completion for each course, and college transcripts where applicable.8American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Certification Maintenance Audit Procedures Incomplete submissions delay the process. Once ASHA has everything, you’ll hear back about your certification status within two weeks.
The practical lesson is to keep documentation organized across the whole three-year interval, not just the year you submit. Tracking down a certificate from two years ago inside a 60-day window is avoidable stress.
If You Miss the Deadline
ASHA’s published materials don’t specify a late fee. The consequence is that your CCC expires, and reinstatement is more expensive and slower than submitting the form on time. While lapsed, you cannot present yourself as holding the CCC or as ASHA-certified.
For both the CCC-SLP and the CCC-A, the reinstatement fee is $400 if you’re also renewing ASHA membership, or $371 for certification alone. PDH and exam requirements scale with how long the certification has been expired:9American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Reinstatement of the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology
- Lapsed 1 year or less: 10 PDHs completed within the past year. No Praxis exam required.
- Lapsed 1 to 2 years: 20 PDHs completed within the past 3 years, plus a passing Praxis score from the last 5 years.
- Lapsed more than 2 years: 30 PDHs completed within the past 3 years, plus a passing Praxis score from the last 5 years.
ASHA generally takes four to six weeks to review a completed reinstatement application.9American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Applications closed because requirements weren’t met in time are non-refundable. All of which is to say: a few minutes in My Account before December 31 is a lot cheaper than any version of what comes after.
