A Lowe’s two-week resignation letter is a short, signed notice you give your store manager stating your position, your store number, and your last day of work. Deliver the signed paper copy to your manager first, then submit the resignation in Workday so payroll and your manager can finalize it on the back end. The letter itself takes about five minutes to write. The steps around it — property return, final pay, and the Workday confirmation — are where associates trip up.
What Belongs in the Letter
Keep it to the facts a personnel file needs. You do not have to explain why you are leaving, and you should not list grievances.
- Your full legal name and Associate ID. Your Associate ID is on your pay statement and badge. Lowe’s uses a nine-digit format for Sales IDs, including any leading zeroes, so copy the exact number from your documents.1Lowe’s Corporate. Former Associate FAQs
- Your store number and department. The store number is printed on your badge and posted near the entrance.
- Your manager’s name. Address the letter to your direct supervisor or the Store Manager, whoever handles staffing for your department.
- Your last day of work. Two weeks out from the submission date is the standard retail courtesy. It is not a legal requirement — at-will employees can resign at any time without advance notice — but a short notice can affect how Lowe’s codes your rehire eligibility, so two weeks is the safe default.

How to Deliver It
Hand It to Your Manager First
Give the signed letter directly to your Store Manager or an Assistant Store Manager. Doing it in person lets you confirm your remaining schedule on the spot and removes any question about whether the letter was received. If your manager is off that day, ask another member of the management team to accept it and note the date and time it was handed over.
Then Submit It in Workday
After the paper letter is in your manager’s hands, log into Workday from a store terminal or at home. Go to your profile, open the resignation option, and enter the same end date you wrote on the letter. Your manager then has to accept the resignation in Workday for the process to finalize. Until that acceptance posts, your systems access and payroll records stay open, so if you do not see a confirmation within a day or two, follow up with your manager.
This step is not optional paperwork. The Workday submission is what triggers your final paycheck calculation and starts the clock on benefits termination. Skip it and your last wages can be delayed.
Returning Company Property on Your Last Day
Bring everything Lowe’s issued to you to your final shift and hand it to your people leader before you leave the building. That typically includes:
- Location keys
- Lowe’s vests and aprons
- Employee discount cards
- ID badges
- Parking tags
- Lowe’s-provided credit cards (business, relocation, telephone, or similar)
- Electronic devices such as laptops, monitors, cell phones, tablets, and docking stations, along with their cords
- Any other items issued for business use
If you worked remotely or from a support center, Lowe’s will email a QR code to the personal email address on file in Workday. Take the company items to the nearest FedEx Office location listed in the email and they will package and ship them back. Company property is expected to be returned within 72 hours of receiving that email.1Lowe’s Corporate. Former Associate FAQs
Final Pay and Accrued Time
Your final paycheck generally arrives by the next regularly scheduled payday. Direct deposit continues through your existing bank account. If Lowe’s issues a paper check, it may be held at the store’s cash office for pickup or mailed to the address on file. Call your store to confirm which applies to you.
Accrued vacation time is typically paid out in that final check. Accrued sick time is generally forfeited when you resign voluntarily, so if you have a meaningful sick balance, use it before you give notice. Requesting sick days after you have already submitted your resignation tends to raise flags with management. State law can override the default on both: some states require payout of earned vacation, and some require payout or continued use of sick leave regardless of resignation status. If your balance is substantial, check your state’s labor rules before you submit the letter.
Protecting Your Rehire Eligibility
Lowe’s generally allows former associates to reapply. The company’s careers FAQ states that in most cases former associates can be rehired and directs them to apply for any open position through the standard careers portal.2Lowe’s Careers. Frequently Asked Questions Giving the full two weeks, working your remaining shifts as scheduled, and returning every piece of company property is what keeps that door open. Walking out mid-notice or skipping your last shifts is the kind of thing that gets noted in your personnel file and makes a future hiring manager pause.
