SYEP Direct Deposit: Sign-Up, Split Pay, and Payment Timing

To get your Summer Youth Employment Program wages sent to a bank account, you have to sign up for SYEP direct deposit through the Participant Site at participant.yepsonline.org before June 30 at 11:59 PM. If you don’t, your pay loads onto a prepaid payroll card by default for the whole summer.1Summer Youth Employment Program. SYEP Direct Deposit Manual Pay runs weekly on Fridays through the six-week program, with 2026 pay dates on July 17, July 24, July 31, August 7, August 14, and August 21.2NYCID. What to Have Ready Before You Start

Pull four things from your bank before you log in:

  • Routing number — the nine-digit number that identifies your bank. On a paper check, it’s the first group of digits along the bottom.
  • Account number — the number tied to your specific account, printed right after the routing number on a check. Length varies by bank.
  • Account type — checking or savings.
  • Bank name — the full name of the institution.

Verify every digit. You get one chance to enter this information, and any error means the deposit can’t go through and you’ll be paid by payroll card instead.1Summer Youth Employment Program. If You’re Under 18

SYEP participants are between 14 and 24 years old, so many don’t yet have an account in their own name.3ACCESS NYC. Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) Most banks require a parent or guardian to co-sign for anyone under 18. A joint checking or savings account works fine for direct deposit as long as the routing and account numbers are entered correctly. If you’re opening an account just for SYEP, start the process early so it’s fully active before June 30.

Signing Up on the Participant Site

Enrollment is online only. There’s no paper form to download or upload. Log into the SYEP Participant Site at participant.yepsonline.org and enter your banking details directly in the portal.1Summer Youth Employment Program. The cutoff is June 30 at 11:59 PM. After that, the option closes and you’ll be on a payroll card for the entire summer.1Summer Youth Employment Program. Splitting Pay Between Two Accounts

You can split your pay across two bank accounts. If the system can’t deposit into one, all funds automatically go to the other. If neither account works, you’re paid by payroll card for that period.1Summer Youth Employment Program. SYEP Direct Deposit Manual

If You Miss the Deadline or Change Your Mind

Without direct deposit, wages load onto a prepaid payroll card that works like a debit card at stores, ATMs, and for online purchases. No bank account is needed to use it. Younger participants (ages 14–15) pick the card up from their SYEP provider at a scheduled date in early July and get an email with the location and time.2NYCID. You can also cancel direct deposit mid-summer. Tell your provider, and you’ll be switched to a payroll card for the remaining pay periods.1Summer Youth Employment Program. SYEP Direct Deposit Manual The reverse — switching from card to direct deposit after the June 30 cutoff — isn’t an option.

When Your Pay Should Arrive

Payday is Friday every week during the program. With a cap of 25 hours per week at New York’s $17.00 minimum wage, total summer earnings can reach around $2,550 before taxes.6NYCID. If a Deposit Doesn’t Show Up

A few common causes:

  • Incorrect bank details. A single wrong digit in the routing or account number sends the deposit back and you’ll be paid by payroll card for that period instead.
  • Inactive account. If the account was closed or frozen after you enrolled, the deposit bounces.
  • Bank processing delays. Some banks don’t post incoming deposits until the afternoon or evening. Check again after 5 PM before assuming something’s wrong.
  • Holiday or weekend timing. Pay dates that fall near a bank holiday may shift by a day.

If nothing has arrived by the end of the business day on payday, call your SYEP provider first. They can confirm whether the payment went out and whether the bank sent it back.
