What Does Canada Goose Warranty Cover: Defects, Exclusions, Claims

What the Canada Goose warranty covers depends on which product you bought. Insulated outerwear is covered against manufacturing defects for the lifetime of the product. Windwear, rainwear, knitwear, footwear, apparel, accessories, and eyewear are covered against manufacturing defects for two years from the date of purchase. Collaboration and capsule products are excluded unless the specific product states otherwise, and items bought through the Canada Goose Generations resale program carry a one-year limited warranty on functional defects.¹²

Across every covered category, the warranty is limited to defects in materials and craftsmanship. It is not a damage policy and not a satisfaction guarantee.

Coverage by Product Type

The lifetime term on insulated outerwear is the most generous piece of the policy, and it is also the most misunderstood. “Lifetime” refers to the product, not the owner. Canada Goose defines it as the “usual and customary wearable life of the product” and assesses age using visible signs like faded fabric or frayed cuffs, acknowledging that a jacket worn daily in harsh conditions wears out faster than one used occasionally.³ Once the item has reached the end of that practical life, the company considers the warranty fulfilled.

For the two-year categories, the clock starts on the date of purchase, and the original receipt is required.¹

What Counts as a Defect

Canada Goose defines covered defects as problems in materials and craftsmanship, meaning issues that trace back to how the product was made rather than how it was used.⁴ A zipper that fails because of improper stitching at the factory would qualify. A zipper that breaks because it was forced over a snag would not.

If a covered defect is confirmed, the company repairs the item at no charge. If it cannot be repaired, or if the cost of repair exceeds the product’s value, Canada Goose may replace it with a product of similar style and functionality at its discretion.¹ For eyewear, if the exact frame is no longer available, the company issues a gift card of equal value. Refunds are not listed as a warranty remedy.

What the Warranty Does Not Cover

Several categories of damage fall outside the policy entirely:

Normal wear and tear, including fading, pilling, and general degradation from regular use.
Accidental damage such as tears, burns, and stains.
Damage caused by improper care or failing to follow the care label.
Any claim on a product with the interior tags removed. Cutting out the tags voids the warranty entirely, because Canada Goose can no longer verify authenticity.¹
Altered or tailored sections of a garment, though unaltered areas remain covered.¹

Eyewear carries additional exclusions for lens scratches, impact damage, improper cleaning, and exposure to excessive heat or moisture.¹

Proof of Purchase and Secondhand Owners

Insulated outerwear is the one category where buying secondhand does not automatically kill your claim. The warranty extends to subsequent owners as long as the product is traceable to an authorized source.¹

For every other category, Canada Goose requires proof of purchase from its own e-commerce site, its retail stores, or an authorized retailer. If no receipt is available, the manufacturing date and other credible documentation “may be considered” during inspection, but the company does not promise coverage in that situation.¹ Products from unauthorized sellers or unverifiable sources are not eligible.

Filing a Claim

All claims go through the online warranty portal at service.canadagoose.com, where you log in and open a claim.⁴ A few things matter before you ship:

Clean the item first, following its care label. If you send in a dirty product, Canada Goose will clean it professionally and bill you $25 to $45 CAD.³
Leave the interior tags intact. A missing tag means a denied claim.
Pay for inbound shipping yourself, with a tracked carrier, since you are responsible for the item until it arrives. Canada Goose covers return shipping.¹

If Your Damage Is Not Covered

Canada Goose may still repair non-warranty damage for a fee. There is no fixed price list; cost depends on the severity of the issue, the materials involved, and the labor required.¹ The company inspects the item first and contacts you with a proposed repair and price before starting any work.

Consumer Rights That Sit on Top of the Warranty

The commercial warranty does not override consumer protection law where you bought the product, and Canada Goose’s own policy acknowledges this. The company states that repair or replacement decisions will be “consistent with mandatory provisions of applicable consumer protection laws” and that its definition of “lifetime of the product” does not limit statutory protections.¹

In the European Union, products carry a mandatory two-year legal guarantee of conformity regardless of what a commercial warranty says. If goods are faulty or do not match their description, the seller must repair or replace them at no cost, and this right cannot be waived by contract.⁵ Some member states go further. Canada Goose’s French terms of sale confirm the company is bound by the statutory warranty of conformity under the French Consumer Code in addition to its own commercial warranty.⁶ In the UK, Canada Goose acknowledges liability for defective products under the Consumer Protection Act 1987 and for breach of a buyer’s legal rights in relation to the products.⁷ If the Canada Goose warranty does not cover your situation, the consumer protection laws where you live may still give you a remedy from the retailer.
