What Does Honda Roadside Assistance Cover? Towing, Fuel, and Lockouts

Honda Roadside Assistance comes free with every new Honda for the length of the 3-year/36,000-mile new vehicle limited warranty, and it covers emergency towing, flat tire changes, jump starts, lockout help, fuel delivery, and winching anywhere in the United States, Canada, or Puerto Rico.¹ A limited trip interruption benefit is also included. Certified pre-owned Hondas get the same roadside coverage for the length of their respective warranties.²

Towing

If your Honda won’t drive, the program will tow it to the nearest Honda dealership at no cost. There’s no published mileage cap, and the vehicle doesn’t have to break down near a dealer to qualify.¹ After a collision, you can ask instead for a tow to the nearest Honda ProFirst Collision Repair Facility.²

One practical catch: the vehicle has to be reachable by the dispatched tow truck. If the car is stuck somewhere a flatbed physically cannot get to, the program may not be able to help.¹

Electric Hondas, including the Prologue, must be towed on a flatbed or trailer. A traditional tow with the wheels rolling on the ground can spin the electric motor and damage the drivetrain, and a fully depleted high-voltage battery leaves a flatbed as the only option. Honda’s service department can connect owners with towing companies familiar with EVs.³

Flat Tires, Jump Starts, and Winching

A technician will change a flat tire on-site if the vehicle has a spare. For Hondas that come with an inflation kit instead of a spare, “Tire Repair Kit assistance” is also covered.⁴ Dead batteries get a jump. Winching is available when the car is stuck, including off-road situations.⁵ Honda doesn’t publish distance or cost caps for winching, but the same accessibility rule applies: if the service truck can’t reach the car, the service may be unavailable.¹

Fuel Delivery

Run out of gas and Honda will deliver two gallons at no charge. Both the delivery and the fuel itself are free.⁶ The service is limited to twice per calendar year, and you’ll need to give the dispatcher your VIN when you call.¹

Lockout Service

If keys are lost, broken, or locked inside the car, Honda will send help. The 2014 launch announcement set the lockout benefit at up to $100 per occurrence.⁴ Key replacement and dead key fob batteries are not covered.¹

Trip Interruption Reimbursement

When a covered breakdown happens 100 or more miles from your primary residence, Honda reimburses up to $100 per day for up to three days, capped at $300 total. Eligible costs include meals, lodging, alternate transportation such as a rental car, and getting back to the repaired vehicle.¹ The $300 is a combined cap across all those categories, not a separate allowance for each, so if a rental and a hotel are both in play, it won’t stretch far.²

Honda operators can also help locate hotels, airline schedules, service stations, ATMs, and banks, and can relay messages to family or an employer. Those are coordination services; any third-party costs are yours unless they fall within the trip interruption benefit.¹

How to Request Help

Call 1-866-864-5211 any time, day or night. Drivers of the Clarity Fuel Cell or Honda electric vehicles have a dedicated line at 1-866-372-5139.² You can also request service through the HondaLink app, which lets you track the status of the request after it’s placed.⁷ Have your VIN and current location ready either way.⁵

Who Qualifies

Standard roadside assistance started with the 2015 model year and applies to every new Honda automobile for the 3-year/36,000-mile warranty term.⁴ Certified pre-owned Hondas under the HondaTrue program keep roadside coverage for the length of their limited warranties:

HondaTrue Certified: two additional years or up to 100,000 total miles.
HondaTrue Certified EV: two additional years or up to 86,000 total miles.
HondaTrue Used: coverage varies; the associated non-powertrain limited warranty runs six months or 10,000 miles.⁸

The program is administered through AAA, which dispatches independent contractors to perform the actual service. You don’t need your own AAA membership to use the benefit.¹

Key Limits and What Isn’t Covered

Honda’s documentation is light on specific exclusions. The limits that matter most in practice:

Fuel delivery is capped at two gallons, no more than twice per calendar year.
Lockout service is capped at $100 per occurrence and does not cover key replacement or key fob battery issues.
Trip interruption only applies to breakdowns 100 or more miles from home, with a $300 combined cap.
The vehicle must be accessible to the dispatched service truck.
Hotels, flights, taxis, and rentals arranged through the concierge line are at your expense outside the trip interruption benefit.
Honda reserves the right to limit or deny service if an owner’s claims are deemed excessive in frequency or type.
Honda can alter or withdraw the program at any time without notice.¹

Because AAA sends independent contractors, both AAA and Honda disclaim responsibility for the quality or conduct of the provider. A dispute over damage during a tow or poor service would be with the contractor directly, not Honda or AAA.¹

Expanded Coverage Through Honda Care

Owners who buy Honda Care, the paid extended warranty, get an upgraded version of roadside assistance. Towing to the closest Honda or Acura dealership is covered regardless of distance, with an extra 25 miles if you’d rather use a different dealer.⁹ Honda Care adds a “Sign and Drive” service covering up to $100 per occurrence for most roadside calls (parts excluded) and rental reimbursement of up to $35 per day for up to six days during a covered repair.¹⁰ A Family Plan extends roadside coverage to up to five Honda or Acura passenger vehicles or Honda motorcycles registered to the same household, provided those vehicles are 2015 or newer. Honda Care also layers in concierge extras not in the base program, including emergency cash advances, insurance claim assistance, auto glass replacement referrals, and personalized trip routing.
