What Does John Deere Warranty Cover? Terms, Exclusions, and Claims

The John Deere factory warranty covers the repair or replacement of any part found to be defective in materials or workmanship, with both parts and labor paid for by John Deere when the work is done by an authorized dealer. How long that coverage lasts depends on the equipment — a residential lawn tractor, a compact utility tractor, a Gator, and an excavator all run on different clocks. And a long list of items sits outside the warranty entirely: tires, batteries, routine wear parts, and anything damaged by misuse or neglect.

What the Factory Warranty Pays For

Every John Deere factory warranty makes the same core promise. If a part fails because of a defect in material or workmanship during the warranty period, John Deere will repair or replace it using new or remanufactured John Deere parts, and the buyer pays nothing for parts or labor.1Deere.com. Turf and Utility Equipment Warranty Statement The coverage applies to all parts of the new machine except tires and batteries, which have their own separate programs. All warranty work has to be performed by an authorized John Deere dealer or service center.2Deere.com. Warranty FAQ

A few costs still fall to the owner. You pay to get the equipment to the dealer, or to have the dealer come to it. You pay for overtime labor if you request it. And you pay for maintenance or service that isn’t directly tied to a covered defect.1Deere.com. Turf and Utility Equipment Warranty Statement

How Long Coverage Lasts

There is no single warranty length. Most coverage periods are capped by both time and operating hours, and whichever cap you reach first ends the warranty.

Residential Lawn and Garden Equipment

Entry-level machines get shorter terms, premium models get longer ones. The 100 Series lawn tractors and entry-level ZTrak mowers (Z335E through Z375R, Z525E) carry 24 months or 120 hours. The 200 Series and mid-range ZTrak models step up to 36 months or 200 hours. X300 Series tractors and Z515E/Z500M ZTraks get 48 months or 300 hours. X500 Series tractors and Z700E/Z500R ZTraks get 48 months or 500 hours. X700 Series tractors get 48 months or 700 hours. The Z370R Electric ZTrak, with its lithium-ion battery, is covered for 60 months or 200 hours. JS Series residential walk-behind mowers get 24 months for personal use, dropping to 90 days for any other application.1Deere.com. Turf and Utility Equipment Warranty Statement

Equipment used for commercial or income-producing purposes generally receives shorter coverage than the same machine used residentially — in some cases just 12 months.3Deere.com. John Deere Limited Warranty

Commercial Mowing Equipment

Wide area mowers, front mower traction units, 600 Series QuikTrak, and M Series commercial walk-behinds carry 24 months. Z900B/E/M ZTrak, Q800E/M QuikTrak, and R Series commercial walk-behinds get 36 months or 1,200 hours, with no hour cap during the first 24 months. Z997R, Z900A/R ZTrak, and Q800R QuikTrak get 36 months or 1,500 hours, again with no hour cap for the first 24 months.1Deere.com. Turf and Utility Equipment Warranty Statement

Compact Utility Tractors

Compact utility tractors use a two-tier structure. The base equipment is covered for 24 months or 2,000 hours. The powertrain gets 72 months or 2,000 hours.1Deere.com. Turf and Utility Equipment Warranty Statement The powertrain tier covers the engine (cylinder block, cylinder head, valve covers, oil pan, timing gear covers, flywheel housing, and emissions control components) and the drivetrain (transmission, transmission case, differential and axle housings, clutch housings, the MFWD front axle assembly, and the parts inside them). It does not cover external drivelines, dry clutch parts, or steering cylinders.4Deere.com. Turf and Utility Equipment Warranty Statement (2017) A loader bought with a compact utility tractor is warranted for 24 months.

Gator Utility Vehicles

Gators are covered for 12 months or 1,000 hours, whichever comes first. Using a Gator for racing or any competitive activity voids the warranty entirely.1Deere.com. Turf and Utility Equipment Warranty Statement

Agricultural Equipment

Most tractors carry 24 months or 2,000 hours. 5E Series tractors get the same base coverage plus a 60-month or 2,000-hour powertrain warranty. Engines in self-propelled equipment other than tractors are covered for 24 months or 2,000 hours. All other agricultural equipment, including AMS and precision ag products, carries 12 months.5CloudFront.net. John Deere Agricultural Equipment Warranty Statement

Construction and Forestry Equipment

Full-size construction and forestry machines get 12 months from delivery.6Deere.com. Construction and Forestry Extended Warranties Compact construction equipment — compact track loaders, skid-steer loaders, compact wheel loaders, and compact excavators — gets 2 years or 2,000 hours.7Equipment World. Deere Offers 2-Year Warranty on Compact Equipment

Two additional programs sit on top. The StructurALL warranty covers major structural components (booms, mainframes, articulation joints, ROPS, loader arms, and similar heavy frame parts) for 3 years or 10,000 hours. The factory-installed undercarriage warranty covers non-rubberized wear components on tracked machines for 3 years or 4,000 hours. StructurALL does not apply to compact equipment, scraper tractors, or forestry attachments, and neither program covers machines used in extreme-duty applications like demolition or scrap handling.8Iowa.gov. Golf and Turf Equipment

Most reel mowers get 24 months with no hour cap. E-Cut Hybrid reel motors and controllers get 48 months. Aerators get 24 months with no hour cap. Rotary mowers and ProGator utility vehicles get 24 months or 1,500 hours. Lithium-ion batteries in golf and turf equipment are covered for 48 months on a prorated basis: full parts and labor for the first 24 months, 75 percent from months 25 through 36, and 50 percent from months 37 through 48.9Deere.ca. What’s Not Covered

Most warranty denials come down to the same handful of exclusions.

Wear and Maintenance Items

Parts designed to be replaced periodically are not covered. That includes belts, blades, spark plugs, filters, lubricants, bearings, hoses, light bulbs, and seats. Normal wear and tear is excluded regardless of how fast it happens.2Deere.com. Warranty FAQ On construction equipment, bucket teeth, cutting edges, dry brakes, and similar ground-engaging or high-wear components are also excluded.8Iowa.gov. Tires and Batteries

Both sit outside the main equipment warranty. Battery coverage varies by battery type, identified by a warranty code on the battery’s top cover. Free-replacement periods run from 90 days to 18 months depending on the code, with a prorated adjustment period that can stretch to 60 months for some types. A battery that is simply discharged, as opposed to defective, is not covered.10Deere.com. John Deere Limited Battery Warranty Tires sold through the John Deere parts system are warranted by John Deere; tires not in that system fall under the tire manufacturer’s warranty. Manufacturing defects are usually handled on a prorated basis, but flat tires from normal use are not covered.2Deere.com. Warranty FAQ

Misuse, Modifications, and Unauthorized Service

Failures caused by misuse, neglect, lack of required maintenance, collisions, or hitting objects are not covered.2Deere.com. Warranty FAQ Unapproved alterations can void coverage, as can aftermarket parts that adversely affect performance or durability.11Deere.com. John Deere Emission Control System Warranty For construction equipment, having warranty work done by an unauthorized provider, installing unapproved attachments, or moving the machine outside the United States and Canada can terminate the warranty.8Iowa.gov. Emissions Warranty on Diesel Engines

Federal law requires a separate emissions warranty that often outlasts the base equipment warranty. For John Deere nonroad diesel engines, the EPA-mandated emissions warranty runs five years from the date the engine goes into service or 3,000 hours, whichever comes first.12Deere.com. EPA Nonroad Emissions Control Warranty Statement Even after the machine warranty expires, emissions-related components stay covered.

Coverage includes the air-induction system, fuel system, ignition system, exhaust gas recirculation systems, aftertreatment devices, crankcase ventilation, sensors, and engine electronic control units. John Deere pays for diagnosis, parts, and labor when a qualifying emissions defect is confirmed.12Deere.com. EPA Nonroad Emissions Control Warranty Statement For large spark-ignition engines, the general emissions warranty is three years or 2,500 hours, while specific components such as the catalytic converter, electronic control unit, and exhaust manifold are covered for five years or 3,500 hours.13Deere.com. Filing a Warranty Claim

All claims go through an authorized John Deere dealer. Retailers like Lowe’s and The Home Depot sell John Deere equipment but are not authorized to perform warranty service.2Deere.com. Warranty FAQ You can find a servicing dealer through the locator at Deere.com, or by calling 1-800-537-8233 for turf equipment or 1-866-993-3373 for agricultural equipment.14Deere.com. Bring proof of purchase: a dated sales receipt with the model and serial number, especially if you never registered the product.3Deere.com. John Deere Limited Warranty John Deere recommends keeping maintenance receipts, but the company cannot deny a claim solely because you can’t produce them or prove you followed every service interval. Emissions-related warranty repairs must be completed within 30 days.15Deere.com. John Deere Warranty and Maintenance Information Product registration is done online at productregistration.deere.com using the sales receipt, model number, and serial number. For equipment bought from Lowe’s or The Home Depot, John Deere says it cannot register the warranty without this information.16Deere.com. Warranty Registration

Transferring the Warranty to a Second Owner

Factory warranties are transferable to a second owner if the sale happens before the warranty expires and certain conditions are met. For turf and utility equipment, an authorized dealer must be notified of the ownership change and John Deere must approve the transfer.4Deere.com. Turf and Utility Equipment Warranty Statement (2017) The same notification and approval process applies to golf and turf equipment17Deere.ca. The new owner has to provide the engine serial number, delivery date, hours at transfer, and contact information.19Deere.com. Engine Warranty Transfer Information

Extending Coverage With PowerGard

When the factory warranty isn’t enough, John Deere sells PowerGard Protection Plans. They come in two tiers: Comprehensive coverage, which mirrors the factory warranty by covering the full machine minus maintenance and wear items, and Limited coverage, which covers engine and powertrain components only.20Deere.com. Ag and Turf Extended Warranties

On new equipment, PowerGard terms run from 24 to 72 months. On qualifying used equipment, terms run from 12 to 36 months. Used eligibility depends on age and hours: tractors can qualify up to 15 years old with fewer than 5,000 hours, while combines and sprayers must be under 10 years with fewer than 2,000 hours.20Deere.com. Ag and Turf Extended Warranties Construction equipment PowerGard runs up to 60 months with hour thresholds of 3,000 to 5,000 hours and includes hydraulics options.6Deere.com. Construction and Forestry Extended Warranties

Residential plans carry a $0 deductible and include transportation for covered repairs. Commercial plans offer deductible options and don’t require pre-approval before a repair. All work uses genuine John Deere parts. The plan transfers with the machine to a new owner, but cannot be moved from one machine to another.20Deere.com. Ag and Turf Extended Warranties PowerGard pricing is lowest when purchased early: within 6 months or 250 engine hours for most equipment, or within 1 year or 1,000 hours for tractors.

The 30-Day Satisfaction Guarantee

Separate from the warranty, John Deere offers a satisfaction guarantee on select residential equipment. If you buy a lawn tractor or residential ZTrak zero-turn mower from an authorized dealer and aren’t satisfied, you can return it within 30 days for a full refund or exchange. For landscaping and grounds care equipment, the return window is 10 days.14Deere.com. Warranty Statements
