What Does Samsonite Warranty Cover? Exclusions, Duration, Claims

Samsonite’s warranty covers manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship. If a zipper, handle, seam, or wheel mechanism fails because of how the bag was made, Samsonite will repair or replace it at no cost to the original purchaser. What the Samsonite warranty does not cover is just as important: airline damage, normal wear and tear, misuse, cracked or dented hardside shells, and repairs done outside authorized service centers. Coverage lengths run from three years to a limited lifetime, depending on the product line.1Samsonite. Warranty

What Counts as a Covered Defect

The promise is narrow and specific. A defect means a problem that traces back to materials or workmanship, not to how the bag was used or handled. A zipper that splits under normal packing, stitching that unravels on its own, a telescoping handle that jams without being forced: these are the kinds of failures the warranty is designed to address.1Samsonite. Warranty

Samsonite does not publish a part-by-part list of what qualifies. Instead, authorized repair centers evaluate each bag and decide whether the problem looks like a factory flaw or something else.2Samsonite. Service and Repairs A broken wheel can go either way. If the center concludes the wheel failed on its own, it’s covered. If it looks like impact damage or years of road wear, it isn’t.

Coverage runs to the first purchaser, or to the person who received the bag as a gift. It does not transfer if you resell the luggage.1Samsonite. Warranty

What the Warranty Will Not Pay For

The exclusions matter more than the coverage, because they rule out most of the ways luggage actually breaks. Samsonite does not cover:

  • Airline and other carrier damage. If a baggage handler cracks the shell or snaps off a wheel, the claim belongs to the airline.
  • Normal wear and tear, including scuffs, scratches, and fading.
  • Misuse, including packing items the bag wasn’t built to carry.
  • Neglect and accidents, such as drops, rain exposure, or poor storage.
  • Damage from extreme temperatures, solvents, acids, or water.
  • Abrasion from being dragged or scraped.
  • Any repair performed by a shop that is not an authorized Samsonite service center. Using one voids the warranty entirely.1Samsonite. Warranty

One exclusion surprises people often enough to flag separately. Samsonite’s own FAQ states that a cracked or dented hardside shell is not treated as a repairable manufacturing defect.3Samsonite. FAQs A traveler on Tripadvisor reported that the shell of a Magnum Eco spinner cracked within about a year and the claim was declined.4Tripadvisor. Samsonite Frankfurt Reviews If your hardside case cracks, the realistic options are an airline claim (if the damage happened in transit) or paying out of pocket.

How Long Coverage Lasts

Samsonite offers four warranty tiers, and the tier depends on the product line:

  • Limited lifetime global warranty, for the lifetime of the original purchaser.
  • Limited 10-year global warranty.
  • Limited 5-year global warranty.
  • Limited 3-year global warranty.1Samsonite. Warranty

The Black Label collection, for example, carries a 10-year limited warranty.5Luggage Pros. Samsonite’s international support site also hosts a warranty period lookup tool where you can enter the product ID.6Samsonite Support and Go. FAQ

Products bought under the eBags brand, which Samsonite owns, are handled through a separate warranty address at warranty@ebags.com.1Samsonite. Warranty

Filing a Claim and What Happens Next

Claims start online with a repair ticket through Samsonite’s repair portal. From there, you have three ways to get the bag to an authorized repair center:

  • Ship it yourself at your own expense, ideally with a tracked carrier.2Samsonite. Service and Repairs
  • Drop it off in person at an authorized repair center.
  • Bring it to a Samsonite branded retail store, which will forward it to the repair center for a flat fee of $15 for pieces 23 inches or under, or $20 for larger pieces. You cannot mail luggage directly to a retail store.3Samsonite. FAQs

Samsonite’s website has a repair-center locator that searches by ZIP code within a radius of up to 250 miles.7Samsonite. Repair Center Locator Product registration is optional. The interior tag carries the information Samsonite needs, and the FAQ states registration is “not necessary” because of that.3Samsonite. FAQs U.S. purchases generally do not come with a warranty card, so hold on to the receipt as proof of purchase.6Samsonite Support and Go. FAQ

Once the repair center evaluates your bag, four outcomes are possible:

  • Covered and repairable: Samsonite fixes it at no charge.
  • Covered but not repairable: Samsonite offers a comparable replacement at no cost.
  • Not covered but repairable: you can pay for the repair or have the bag returned unrepaired.
  • Not covered and not repairable: the bag is returned as-is or, at your request, disposed of.2Samsonite. Service and Repairs

Refunds are not part of the warranty process. The only refund Samsonite’s site mentions is for unused merchandise returned within 90 days of shipping.3Samsonite. FAQs2Samsonite. Service and Repairs6Samsonite Support and Go. FAQ

If You Bought the Bag in California

For Samsonite products purchased in California on or after July 1, 2023, the warranty period starts on the date of delivery, not the date of purchase.1Samsonite. Warranty This comes from California Assembly Bill 2912, which amended the Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act to require that express warranties on consumer products begin no earlier than delivery. Governor Gavin Newsom signed the bill in September 2022, in part because pandemic-era shipping delays were quietly consuming coverage before buyers even had the product in hand.8California State Assembly. Warranties in California Will Begin Date of Delivery, Not Date of Purchase

Rights the Written Warranty Doesn’t Erase

The written warranty is not the only protection you have. Every state has implied warranty laws, including the implied warranty of merchantability, which is a legal promise that a product will do what it is supposed to do. Implied warranties can last up to four years in some states.9Federal Trade Commission. Warranties

Samsonite’s own warranty text acknowledges that customers “may also have other rights that vary from state to state or country to country” and that its limitations “may not be applicable to you.”1Samsonite. Warranty Federal law also bars manufacturers from requiring you to use specific branded parts or authorized services as a condition of warranty coverage unless those parts or services are free.9Federal Trade Commission. Warranties If Samsonite denies a claim you believe should be covered, a state consumer protection office or an attorney can tell you whether implied warranty law gives you additional recourse.

How Samsonite’s Coverage Compares

Samsonite’s warranty is typical for a mid-range brand, but it is narrower than what some premium competitors offer, mainly because of the airline-damage exclusion. Briggs & Riley offers an unconditional lifetime guarantee that covers functional damage, including damage caused by airline baggage handlers, at no charge, and the company does not require proof of purchase or product registration.10Briggs & Riley. Lifetime Guarantee11Travel for Business. Briggs and Riley vs Tumi Warranty and Repair

Tumi offers a five-year limited warranty on wheeled luggage and two years on accessories. Year one includes a “worry-free” period covering airline and transit damage; from years two through five, that transit coverage drops off and only structural and workmanship defects are left.11Travel for Business. Briggs and Riley vs Tumi Warranty and Repair Samsonite’s warranty can run longer in years depending on the tier, but it never covers airline damage. Samsonite’s UK operation has launched a “Wecare” program for C-Lite, Proxis, and Nexis models purchased from February 1, 2026, which covers functional damage including transport damage, but there is no indication yet whether it will reach the U.S. market.12Samsonite UK.
