What Toyota Maintenance Plans Cover and What They Don’t

Toyota maintenance plans cover the factory-scheduled services a new or used Toyota is supposed to receive on a set mileage schedule: oil and filter changes, tire rotations, multi-point inspections, fluid level checks, and 24-hour roadside assistance. They do not cover wear items like brake pads, tires, wiper blades, or spark plugs, and they do not pay for anything a dealer recommends outside the factory maintenance guide. The free plan that comes with every new Toyota is called ToyotaCare; the paid plans that extend or replace it are ToyotaCare Plus, ToyotaCare Plus Service Drive, Toyota Auto Care, and Toyota Service Care.

What Every Toyota Plan Covers

All of Toyota’s maintenance plans are built around the same short list of services performed by Toyota-trained technicians using Toyota Genuine Parts:1Toyota. Toyota Maintenance Plans

  • Engine oil and filter changes (not applicable to electric vehicles)
  • Tire rotations
  • Multi-point vehicle inspections
  • Fluid level inspections and adjustments
  • Maintenance reminders
  • 24-hour roadside assistance

Roadside assistance itself covers battery jump-starts, towing to the nearest Toyota dealer or one within 25 miles of it, lockout help, flat tire service using your spare, emergency fuel delivery, and winching out of a ditch, mud, sand, or snow. On bZ electric models, battery out-of-charge assistance replaces fuel delivery.1Toyota. What Toyota Maintenance Plans Do Not Cover

Only the specific factory-scheduled items are included. Anything a service advisor recommends on top of the scheduled list is on the owner.2Toyota Owners. How Can I View My ToyotaCare Coverage Items that fall outside every Toyota maintenance plan include:

  • Brake pads and linings
  • Tires (replacement, not rotation)
  • Wiper blades
  • Spark plugs and fuses
  • Clutch linings

These are treated as normal wear items.3MotorTrend. ToyotaCare: The Free Plan With Every New Toyota

ToyotaCare comes at no cost with every new Toyota. For model year 2026 and earlier vehicles, it runs 2 years or 25,000 miles, whichever comes first. For model year 2027 and newer vehicles, Toyota has cut coverage to 1 year or 10,000 miles.2Toyota Owners. Toyota recommends service every 5,000 miles or six months. Under the 2-year/25,000-mile version, that is up to five covered visits, at 5,000, 10,000, 15,000, 20,000, and 25,000 miles.6Courtesy Toyota. ToyotaCare FAQ Odd-mileage visits are typically a tire rotation, fluid inspection, and brake check. Even-mileage visits add an oil and filter change along with cabin and engine air filter inspection.7Sun Toyota. ToyotaCare Service Maintenance

One wrinkle: vehicles that use 0W-20 synthetic oil only need an oil change every 10,000 miles. On those models, the 5,000-mile visit still includes a rotation and inspection, but no oil change.8Toyota Owners. What Are the Oil Change Intervals The number of visits stays the same; fewer of them involve oil.

Roadside assistance under ToyotaCare runs 2 years with unlimited mileage on most models. The Mirai, bZ series, Prius, and Prius Prime get 3 years with unlimited mileage.1Toyota. Toyota Maintenance Plans

Maintenance coverage is valid in the continental United States and Alaska. Roadside assistance also covers Hawaii and Canada.9Toyota Financial Services. ToyotaCare Plus: Extending the New-Vehicle Plan

ToyotaCare Plus is a prepaid add-on that picks up where ToyotaCare ends. For model year 2026 and earlier vehicles, coverage can extend up to 5 years or 75,000 miles from the date of first use, with tiers starting at 3 years/35,000 miles. For model year 2027 and newer vehicles, the program now goes up to 6 years or 13 services, with the first service at 15,000 miles.10Toyota Financial Services. Prepaid Maintenance Plan1Toyota. Covered services mirror ToyotaCare but reach the higher-mileage intervals. Depending on the tier, that can include milestone services at 30,000, 45,000, 60,000, and 75,000 miles, which may add cabin and engine air filter replacement, driveline service, and on some vehicles spark plug replacement.11Passport Toyota. To be eligible under the 2026-and-earlier program, the vehicle must have been eligible for the original ToyotaCare, have 31,000 miles or fewer, and be within 37 months of the date of first use. For 2027 and newer vehicles, the odometer limit is under 16,000 miles.2Toyota Owners. A narrower variant, ToyotaCare Plus Service Drive, covers up to 4 years or 45,000 miles from the date of first use and targets the 30,000-, 35,000-, 40,000-, and 45,000-mile service intervals. It shares the eligibility rules of standard ToyotaCare Plus and has an EV version that swaps emergency fuel delivery for charging assistance.1Toyota. Toyota Maintenance Plans

Plans for Older or Used Toyotas

If your Toyota has aged out of ToyotaCare and ToyotaCare Plus eligibility, two prepaid plans are still available.

Toyota Auto Care is open to 2005 and later model year Toyotas regardless of current mileage, as long as the original ToyotaCare has expired. Terms run from 1 year/15,000 miles up to 4 years/55,000 miles. It covers oil and filter changes (including synthetic where required), tire rotations, multi-point inspections, fluid services, and 24-hour roadside assistance with towing up to 25 miles.12Toyota Certified. Toyota Auto Care Brochure

Toyota Service Care is a 2-year, unlimited-mileage prepaid plan for most Toyotas not currently covered by another maintenance plan. It covers the same core services and can be renewed repeatedly, which makes it the usual choice for high-mileage or older Toyotas.1Toyota. Toyota Maintenance Plans

Transfers, Cancellations, and Refunds

Every Toyota prepaid plan (ToyotaCare Plus, Toyota Auto Care, ToyotaCare Plus Service Drive, and Toyota Service Care) can be transferred one time to a private party for a $50 fee. Transfers to dealers are not allowed.10Toyota Financial Services. Prepaid Maintenance Plan

You can cancel within the first 30 days for a full refund if no benefits have been used. After that, or if any services have been performed, refund terms depend on the individual purchase agreement.10Toyota Financial Services. Prepaid Maintenance Plan

Is a Prepaid Toyota Plan Worth It

Whether a prepaid plan saves money comes down to the price your dealer quotes, your model, and what the same services would cost paid individually. Pricing is not standardized. One New Jersey dealer reportedly offered a ToyotaCare Plus plan for $329, while plans elsewhere have cost over $1,000.13ClassAction.org. ToyotaCare Plus Lawsuit Claims Automaker Exaggerated Value of Maintenance Plans

A 2024 class action filed in California alleged that Toyota exaggerated the value of ToyotaCare Plus. The plaintiff said she paid $1,025 for a plan she was told would save her at least $875, and alleged that paying for the same services out of pocket would have cost $800 to $900. The complaint also claimed dealership service representatives inflated the quoted cost of individual services to make the plan look better, and that some scheduled maintenance was skipped or performed out of order.13ClassAction.org. ToyotaCare Plus Lawsuit Claims Automaker Exaggerated Value of Maintenance Plans The case was voluntarily dismissed without prejudice shortly after filing.14PACER Monitor. Teresa Solis v Toyota Motor Sales, USA, Inc et al

For a rough baseline, individual service costs cited for a Toyota Corolla run about $100 to $130 for an oil and filter change and $79 to $100 for a tire rotation. Higher-mileage services add up: transmission fluid replacement $167 to $198, brake fluid replacement $125 to $158, and coolant replacement $90 to $113.15Automoblog.
